Sniping has got to be the *censored* easiest thing ever to be done on the 3 series of socoms. S1 and S2 sniping took skill, serious skill if you were a quick-scoper. S3 the crosshairs are twice as large in and out of scope, so sniping is twice as easy. And with the new character movement (which I like, don't get me wrong [jumping and being able to move your crosshairs in mid-air]) it makes quick scoping so easy it's not even fun.

And finally...

Camping. Good *censored* Lord. This game is ruined because of all you women who feel they're too good to actually play the game and try and firefight. Every single *censored* map has campers. Every single one.

"Alright guys so let's go out, chuck some nades, then we'll get one, then everyone head back to spawn and hide"

^^Some "leader" on KF small last night. I told him to play with his vagina while I play the game. Of course, 7 guys on SEALs camped their spawn. Know what I did? I threw some nades, got 2, then rushed in and killed the last 5. *censored* YOU CAMPERS.

Zipper took everything fun out of this game by making it realistic. S1 and S2 wern't too too realistic, but S3 is. And it's no fun because of that. Even TK respawns are boring. You can't do anything anymore. There's no "conquer the computer room" or "conquer the boxroom" or "conquer the bikehouse" or trying to shotgun with snipers. Like..you still can, but crosshairs are so big you mine aswell not even try.

Maps...Zipper didn't make one FUN map IMO. All the maps blow nuts. And in small, there's not ONE even map, maybe waterworks small, but the rest are all so camp/one side noob friendly it's unbelievable. In my own experience, I've had more campers on smalls than big.

In S2 you couldn't camp too much, people didn't have too much patience, if you camped 2 rounds in a row by yourself, and ended up wasting 2 mins every round sitting there, people would vote you off. Since there's no motive to camp in S2, people didn't so much. S3 has motive to camp. That damned have more people alive on suppression bullcrap.

In S2 (and S1, keep forgetting it) if you camped once or twice, people would figure it out and you're dead, no more camping, game over. It was easy to kill and identify campers in S2 and much more fun killing them. Since it was over with faster and of course S2s gameplay > S3s.

Another gripe...camping...again, one time I tried it just to see how I'd do. I layed in the middle of that one area with 5 big silos in crucible with a guille suit and an SD. Just proned right in the middle. Not too many people noticed, I got about 7 or 8 kills total in 2-3 rounds with alternate "in the middle of nowhere" spots. This game is no fun because it's so easy to be a woman.
If you don't like this game compared to the other ones why play it? And along with that why be involved in a message board and clan dedicated to the game?

I think one reason people are having the thought about it being less addictive is because, Socom 3 requires team work and people to work together to achieve a common goal. Where as in Socom 2 one guy could kill a whole team sometimes and most people didnt care about working as a team.
THERE WERE some people who did use tatics in SOCOM II. I must admit, most people do not use stragety. My clan in S2, we used tatics every match when we were in a clan war. You can't say that Socom II was taticless, some used it.

I wasnt saying that all clans didnt use tactics. I'm just saying a lot of people didnt especially those who werent in a clan. Now it takes a lot more strategy and team work to win where as before on Socom 2 you could just run around and shoot people and win.

I didn't think socom 3 was going to be better then socom 2, I was hoping it stayed the same (gameplay and such) just new maps, new menu things like the join game through friends list and clan, and smoother games...
From day one i got it, i keep trying to grab an old copy of socom 2 since i live out in the middle of nowhere i have to either borrow someones or have go into town and waste gas, time and such.
ANyways sorryr babbling, but i have to disagree with the tactics comment for socom 2, When you stared to lose, you developed a strategy, nothing compared to the plans you can come up with in socom 3 (m2 mines, blocking roadways with trucks, waiting with rockets when you know the big tanks coming for ya) but they were strategy's. Example: Blizzard, your down 5-3 (rounds) and its a war, this team is jjust on top of any move you guys do, so you start planting mines here and there, set up a sort of ambush with your team and you wait. I know some hate campers, but its a video game, you should try and win any way possible (just dont cheat).
Also, you could grab that game and literally play a full game of say demo, in under 25 mins, socom 3, you hopinto a game of say citadel demo, and your in there maybe over 30, 40 sometimes, i played a gmae that last 55 mins the other night, demo.....come on......and extract is not the same at all....

I am flat out a respawn junky, and I must say that the respawns in Socom 2 freakin OWN the respawns in Socom 3. I liked the game for its innovations, but the maps posed no strategic value. It's almost as if the developers said, "That looks cool, leave it be, single players awesome!" and didn't think to put outlooks or changeable areas (C4 and airstrikes anyone?) to alter the gameplay. Every outlook and building is only as useful for the time it is yours. Eventually, some player ends up coming up behind you and shooting you in the back of the head since they snuck behind the strung out defense line of your team.
I gave Socom 3 a great chance, because I was really excited about it for lets say, 6 months? but it didn't live up to my invisionment of socom. I will admit, the single player was alot more fun, but the graphics weren't to my liking (almost too clear, I enjoyed the fuzziness of Socom 1 and 2 because it seemed to make the characters seem less pixely) and the gameplay is either too drawn out or ends in you dieing to a suicide bomber carrying the latest grenade launcher.
Sadly, I do not play socom 3 any longer since my partner in crime never got into it, and now im too busy with school. It all happened right after I started using rank too, I didn't even get into ensign before I got bored with it. I am seriously considering picking up socom 2 again for the classic feeling. Socom 3 wasn't a mistake, but it wasn't socom to me.

Socom 3 can just get bland fast for me. Probably because none of the maps are wut they were in s2. Wut i think is the worst wud be just running around for an hour in a big map not finding anybody. ppl r just scattered all over the place, and not fighting for a central location, like s2 (example: frostfire computer room) its not that its a bad game, just boring after a while. and even in a small map, it sux cause most ppl r still sniping.

There are some days where I enjoy playing Socom 3, and some days where I'm just ready to sell it. I stopped playing for 2 or 3 months, and just recently started back again. The difference between 2 and 3 for me is when I get annoyed with S3, I won't play for a while and I don't really have any desire to play. When I got annoyed with Socom 2, I would get pissed and turn the PS2 off, but I may get back on later that night.

One problem that I have with S3 is the fact that the maps are so big, but it still seems like you start really close to the other team a lot of times. The main reason is because of the different spawn points. It just seems like sometimes you start the game and there are guys from the other team on every side of you. On S2, you knew where the other team was starting, you started on one side of the map, and the other team started all the way across the other side.

I like to snipe sometimes, but I think it gets boring. But now you pretty much have to snipe most of the time if you want to get kills. Even people that don't pick sniper rifles just get the M16 with the High Scope, and why not it seems to be just as effective. There is pretty much no place for running and gunning on S3, and I miss that aspect of the game. Now everyone has Guille Suits and just hide in the grass until they see someone go by. And if it is 2 on 4 with one minute left, you would think the team with 2 people would try to win; nope, they are still laying in the grass letting time run out and giving the game away.

And the worst part about Socom 3 is when you die within the first minute of the round. It's easy to say I need to stay alive longer, but somebody has to try and find people. If everyone lays in the grass, it will just end in a tie every time. The problem is, when I die I don't want to watch the rest of the round. It is just not entertaining to watch S3. You know what is going to happen, most of the people left will camp and the team with the most people left will win. On the other hand, it was fun to watch when you were dead in S2. With the exception of a few levels, there were rarely ever 5 minute rounds in S2 compared to S3. You could always count on good shootouts at the end of rounds on S2 and they were cool to watch. How many times have you seen 1 on 1 at the end of a round on Socom 3 and then they get in a really good gun battle, and the guy that wins gives the other team a taunt. Since the maps were smaller on Socom 2 you could go look for the guy at the end and kill him, there were only so many places he could hide. Now they can hide anywhere and you can walk over guys and not see them.

Socom 3 was full of ideas that seemed really cool and more realistic, but when you actually play the game, you realize how good Socom 2 really was. The idea of customizing your weapon sounded cool, but it just makes the game annoying because now people can have good scopes on most guns, silence most guns, and have grenade launchers on any level. (Although I don't see the big deal about grenade launchers on S3, because you only get 2 rounds, it takes forever to reload, and they aren't as accurate. On S2 you could point your GL at a window from 100 yards away and get it through the window.) Maybe if everyone starts playing Socom 2 again they will get the point.

Socom 3 would be so much better if you didnt get the people who are afraid to die. For example, the clan Im in is ranked 35 on GB, we played two Top 5 clans recently. It's a 12v12 and the other clan doesnt leave their spawn on Crucible. They just setup m2 mines, snipers and people with RPG's so its unpenetrable. They literally didnt move about 30 meters from their spawn. When people play like that it isnt fun. Socom 2 was different because everything was small and in sight. People would say Terr. rushing Red Room, now its a sniper in a bush next to the mid-size mountain???. For me, I think the best maps in Socom 3 and maybe the Socom series are Fault and Citadel beacuse of their small/medium sizes and quick gameplay. Socom 3 is by far a better made game just not as enjoyable for someone with a limited amount of time to play.......

.....

i also get bore with Socom 3 alot quicker than socom 2.

The main reason for me it that i think the maps are just not as good as the socom 2 maps. I really think it has taken away from the game. I like Socom 3 in general, but they have to get some new maps out, hopefully soon. I had more fun on crossroads, DG, Blizzard, etc. than i have on any of these new maps.

So, for me, i like Socom 3 better overall, but i think the maps are really lacking.

i have 2 and ONLY 2 complaints about s3, but they are huge issues to me.

First, before I got my officer rank and i'd play in enlisted ranks, i'd say about 40% of my games counted as disconnects for absolutely no reason. i've posted numerous times on this forum about those problems and stuff, and i know for a fact it's my router or connection or anything, because i never lag, and i never actually get disconnected from the game...every game would end like normal, except about 40% would randomly count as disconnects instead of counting my score. Anyway, after I finally got my officer rank of 4 star admiral (no, i've never ranked up), I haven't played in a ranked game since as a result of nobody playing in the flag rooms for admirals except small maps, which i despise. Anyhow, I'm not sure if this problem would still exist if I started playing in user made ranked rooms or flag grades again, but I have like 105 games on record for wins/losses and like 60 some disconnects. Well, 60 x 15 points per disconnect is already a HELL OF A LOT of points right there...but i stopped worrying about that (though i wish they'd reset the discs and give me points) after i stopped playing ranked games.

Anyway, the 2nd thing, and this is by far the part of the game that i hate the most...is the hit detection. In s2, 4 bullets to the chest from the M4A1 SD would knock a terrorist out cold...in this game, I find myself sneaking up on people and as a point of habit ever since i started playing s2, my aimer is a little lower than usual and i look to pump the guy full of bullets in the chest instead of aiming higher and trying for head shots that may miss a lot

now, i'll be perfectly honest...my aim is often spot on in gun battles...save getting sniped or snuck up behind, i cannot recall too many 1 on 1 showdowns in s2 with opponents that i died from. but in socom 3, i will (and this NOT hyperbole) sneak up behind somebody, unload half a clip of an IW, STG, RA, whatever, into their back, and they may end up dying anyway, but sometimes they just wheel around and get off a lucky headshot, either killing me and leaving them alive, or a double kill...and that is something i just cannot stand. i mean, honestly, 10-15 bullets right in the back?? it's absolutely ridiculous. i often find myself continuing to fire at their dead body b/c i'm never sure they're dead for real, or if socom 3 is screwing me over. anyhow, that's the biggest grievance i have with s3, and while i love s2, its map, and its style to death, s3 is a very, very good game (i couldnt answer which i like better, though), but the hit detection is a bunch of BS.

Im tired of everyone bashing this game. You guys dont know how fortunate you are to have this game online. This game has so much potential and options to create watever style you want. I wish i was connected online right now playing but i cant bcuz im at school.

If i was online right now I wouldnt byotch about the campers or snipers in the tall grass with sr's . I would make them pay for it with my thermal scope.

The game is more realistic and challenging>These factors dont make it boring bcuz it actually takes skill and thought to kill someone. Unlike in socom 2. Where you almost know where the enemy is going in each scenario.

Of course if run out into the open. You're gonna get popped. So think before you act and you'll find this game 3X better than s2 ever was.
