I've been a fan of the Playstation consoles since the very beginning when games like Warhawk, Twisted Metal, and Battle Arena Toshinden where all the rage. The game selection is alot better suited for my tastes in games (With a few exceptions, I normally don't touch a game unless it's M rated).

Other systems have decent titles, but no one has the amount of successful "series" games, like the playstation (I know some of the other consoles have some of the same series, but the popularity still leans towards the Playstation version of the series).

Example:

Popular Series

SOCOM Series (of course)

Final Fantasy Series

Metal Gear Solid Series

Medal of Honor Series

Resident Evil Series

Silent Hill Series

Katamari Series (Addicting as all heck!!!!)

Devil May Cry Series (Bada** is the only word to describe this series)

Gran Turismo Series (The king of driving sims)

Fatal Frame Series (I love how it f**ks with your head)

Ace Combat Series

Burnout Series

Individual Popular Game (for me at least)

KillZone (Awesome game, but hampered by a flawed online system. This is the only reason it didn't live up to being a halo killer. The graphics did beat Halo's by a longslide. I still play this game often because of the look and feel of the storyline.)

In a nutshell, I have plenty of other favorites to keep me with the Playstation consoles. I'm on my SOCOM kick right now, but I imagine a year or so from now, I'll find something else to peak my interests (PS3).

I had a love affair with Playstation long before SOCOM. I got a PS1 shortly after they first came out and have been with Sony ever since. There are several different titles that are Playstation exclusive, which I love. Socom, of course, the Tekken series, Grand Theft Auto (not exclusive, but always released to Sony first), the better Final Fantasy games, just to name a few.

For the love of Playstation

Want some interesting stats about the Playstation thus far, well here we go.

Who do you think sold more units this past Christmas, 360 or PS2?

The winner was the PS2 lol, it out sold MS 360 console. Chairman & CEO Howard Stringer added this bit of info while presenting the up and coming PS3. You can find this @ www.gamespot.com under the PS3 section of news.

Also, with the millions of units that have been sold of the PS2. You can now find a PS2 in 1 of 3 house holds. THATS JUST CRAZY! To add to this amazing number, the only other console ever to do this was???

You guessed it, the PS1!!!

Anyways, this is not the reason i stay loyal to Sony. I just felt that was some interesting bits of info =) I have been a fan of Playstation since the debut of PS1. I've been amazed time and time again with the quality games that have come out for the system and i can only imagine whats in store for the PS3.

I would say Socom is one game that keeps me ball & chained to the playstation, but its not just that. There just arent enough games on the Xbox to warrent me buying one. As someone already stated, there are many mutiplatform games now, so no need to have every system.

IMO: Microsoft just came too little, too late. They need to stay on the pc end where they belong. :P

The post about Sony being able to inspect the 360 and make it a better system is right on.

An example of this is the Ps2 vs XBOX.....

The xbox no doubt is a better system when you talk about specs, graphics, memory and anything really when you get inside the device. Outside the device with the games is all up to opinion. The reason for this was due to the release time.

Microsoft will always be playing catch up. The game titles Sony has and the sheer number of ps1, ps2 and soon ps3 consumers gives Billy boy no chance to compete.

Bill and his ego bite off more than they can chew when they entered the gaming market, but when you make the profits they do I really doubt they are worried bout it.

The good news is this is America, and you are free to purchase and enjoy both systems with their pros, and cons. ( I am a video game addict from my Atari 2600, to my nes, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafix, PS1, PS2 x-box and now x-box 360). I do spend about 80% of my video game time on socom since the first one, but there are some great games on x-box and the 360. Ghost Recon 2 (3rd person) was awful on PS2, but was great on xbox ( even more realistic than socom ). The halo series is still fun, and Prject Gothan Racing is just as fun as Gran Turismo with better graffics. The specs dont lie, xbox was a better more powerful machine than PS2, just without the vast library that PS2 enjoys (IE socom). I can tell you that the 360 is freaken awesome, but we will have to wait and see what the PS3 is really like ( I will be purchasing one as well). I would go as far as to say That the socom series is the only reason I still own a playstation period. With most games now available for Microsoft, and playstation and xbox being more powerful it seems logical for me to want to play games on that system, (especially with the far superior online system, and yes I know you have to pay for it). Anyway I know that this post rambled, but my point is if you are a video game addict like me, you will enjoy both systems. I know 360 has a lot to offer,m and I hope ps3 is as good as advertised ( if so socom 4 will be awesome). Peace and if you are a fanboy dont flame, I am merely stating my opinion.

The point wasn't that you don't have the right or freedom to choose to have multiple systems, or even that you can't choose 1 system over another.

The point was to find out if the Socom series was a substantial factor in the sale of PS2 consoles over X-Box 360 console.

As far as gaming history is concerned, I am a greybeard from the telstar days. I have always had multiple systems until now. I find that the Socom series has kept me largely blind to other games on the market.

For you young whipper-snappers, a Telstar is the console after Pong.
