Disconnect Issues... Preventative Maintenance on Cable

Hello all, I have been having problems with disconnects from Socom 3. This consistantly happens every 30 to 60 mins. I dont know if its the latest patch or the fact I have switched to Comcast Cable HSI 6 - 11Mbps/384. I know its not my router because I can monitor all my connections LAN/WAN and everything stays connected. This never happened while I had SBC DSL 384 - 1.5Mbps/260

Here is my setup.
Comcast HSI 6 - 11Mbps (8.9Mbps consistant) w/ 384Kbps up.
Motorola SB5101
Netgear WGT624

I have the proper ports forwarded TCP and UDP according to Sony.
# Start Port End Port Server IP Address (PS2)
1. 10070 - 10080 (TCP) - 192.168.0.10
2. 80 - 80 (TCP) - 192.168.0.10
3. 6000 - 7000 (UDP) - 192.168.0.10
4. 10070 - 10070 (UDP) - 192.168.0.10
5. 50000 - 50000 (UDP) - 192.168.0.10
6. 3658 - 3658 (UDP) - 192.168.0.10
I assigned this local IP to my PS2's MAC address.

My mics work depending on the host (no problems here). Just dealing with the disconnects.

Do any of you have the same problems since the patch or w/ Cable?

Thanks,
-Henny

I have not heard anything about this, one time after it had rained for a week straight, I would get the same thing. Besides that though, I have no idea, I haven't heard anything about this.

I don't know much about routers, but I do know a lot about cable.

Try a speed test with just your computer hooked up to the modem that you got from Comcast, then hook the computer up through the router and try the speed test again.

www.speakeasy.net

That will give you some kind of idea what your router is doing to your return back to Comcast servers.

Also take a look at the cable wiring in your home. Is is thick commercial grade RG-6, or is it the crappy Radio Shack bought RG-59? (That goes for everybody. Go to Lowes and pick up some RG-6.)

Go outside and look at the cable coming from the pole to your home. Is is old, frayed? Are the connectors rusty? If you can reach the cable, bend it a little. Does it sound crunchy? (If it does it means you have had water in that line.) Do you have any limiting filters on your line?

A biggie is splitters. If the splitter has gotten water in it, then it's toast. Your cable modem should be on what we refer to in the business as a "Home Run". This means that when the cable from the pole gets attached to the house it gets put on one Two-Way splitter. The first split goes to the cable modem and the rest of the house gets fed off of the other. And if you have a lot of outlets in your house you might have a subscriber amplifier. Your modem should definitely not be going though that.

Also, believe it or not if your signal to your house is too good, it can knock it offline! The signal level hitting your modem should be 0 dBmV. You can have this checked by Comcast, they might not get it perfect but it should be within a certain parameter. You can ask for a technician to come out to your home and replace your outside wiring, splitters, and amp (if you have one). The inside stuff is your business, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for us to replace it.

Remember, all of these factors can frack up your gaming experience. Every serious gamer should take a look at the things that I have mentioned here and make sure they get taken care of. When it comes to online gaming, you're only as good as your connection.

My internet connection never goes down. I run my tests from the dslreports site but not from the speakeasy server. I connect to the Megapath one in San Francisco as I am in the N. California area. Here I test consistantly at 8469Kbps up (8.4Mbps) thats 6 times faster than a T1. My upload is 455Kbps up.

The cabling in my house is RG6. My house is new and I had one RJ6 and two Cat 5e's ran out to every room in my house during the build.

Connection to the internet is not the problem. I think its 100% a SCEA/Zipper problem.

Im just going to sit back and see what happens.

Every now and the I have problems logging on. I do the connection test and it comes back sucessful. I can even see how many people are online at that given time. But the server news never comes up. If I dont join a room fast,I get the "Diconnected from Server" error. Or the "Join room Timed out" error. I have a brand new cable, running directly to the modem (No CPU connected). I reset the modem before I log on too. What else can I do!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Big... I use to have that same exact problem. At the time I had DSL and they couldnt gaurantee my connection speed. When my internet connection was slow I would have the login problem. Anything slower than 128Kbps I could not log on. Other online games did work though.

When my DSL was running good at around 384Kbps or better I didnt have the connection problem. I could monitor my bandwidth usage during login. Socom 3 takes up about 128Kbps on the upstream and craves for about 280Kbps on the downstream.

I have since went to Comcast cable and never get the login problem anymore.

Hope this helps explains your issue. Let us know how it goes.
