advanced control options for socom - ?
in one of the menus you can go to while your logged in to your account, there is an options section. under this, you can view sound, video, control and some other stuff, but anyway, under controls there are presets for your controller configuration. the default most of us probably have is called sailor. then there two more presets, with the last one being "Seal", and custom. Underneath these are bars with the labels:

Look speed
Acceleration
Dead Zone

(im pretty sure about the wording of the second one) These bars are filled to different amounts, depending on what preset you have.

The point is i wanted to make a "super seal" with the best configuration under custom that fits my playing style, so Do any of you know for sure what they attribute to? obivously i could figure some of them out - look speed - but after experimenting with acceleration, it blew out my idea of what look speed really was.

Anyway i think we could all benefit if we found out what they did, because they have a huge affect on how you play.

I currently have my settings on sailor. I personally like this setting the best. Try to increase the setting a little bit at a time, getting used to the setting everytime you turn it up. Once you feel comfortable with that setting, turn it up again. Keep doing this until you feel its at the best setting for you. Like i said, i feel sailor setting is the best but thats just for me.

I dunno about that. I went straight from recruit to seal in one day on Socom1, and it took less than a week to get used to. It's not hard, it makes the game much better.

ok i tried moving the things around on custom, you knowmove acceleration all the way up, dead zone all the way down, to see what happened, cause my question was what do they mean - you know what does "dead zone" attribute to?

look speed - how fast the your target recticle moves across the screen

now pay attention:

acceleration - the amount of time it takes for your look speed to reach its top speed for example: when you hit right analog to the right - it doesnt start going at full speed- it takes time just like a car going from 0-60.

dead zone- the amount you have to push the analog in order to see a result. if you set it high , the smallest twitch of the analog will move your character or aim. if you set it low- you have to move the analog more in order to see a result.

i'm almost positive dead zone is how much one has to move the analog sticks to get movement. But i could be wrong. Someone explained it once but i forget and i think that is what it is.

That is pure spraying. No accuracy, therefore, no skill. I have mine of the defaults, on Socom 2, I upped my look/accel and downed my dead zone. I strafed like a beast, but couldn't aim. I could M16 like a machine, just strafe at head level, but on Socom 3, it can't be done like that. I play on the defaults (recruit I think) and use a thing not everyone knows about, accuracy. I still do pretty good.
