This is just the old rich white man's attempt to fight technology.
"It is easier to blame someone than to take the time to understand them."
Laws like this have been increasingly prevalent now that we are in an age of technological boom. So many laws have already been challenged and changed and others updated to fit these times... some for the good of society, others to the detriment. While I totally disagree with such a lame attempt by them to control such a puerile aspect of the music production industry, I actually applaude the oddacity of it. Laws should always be challenged and protected; especially when it concerns the intellectual property and copyrights and control of their industry that
they are by all means entitled to. These people make their living off of this stuff that has been produced in this "non-tech" fashion for years now. We can't really blame them for protecting their livelyhood, can we?
Granted, I'm simply playing devil's advocate here... if they were really concerned with it from a marketing standpoint, they should have invested the money they've put toward a lawsuit to moving their production from sheet music and lyrics to a better suited and more profitable online structure instead... and because of their lack of innovation, they deserve to lose business.
Ultimately I think they are just fighting for the principle of the matter now (which is an important one and certainly one that should not be overlooked!) since they've pretty much lost all chance of regaining their "industry".
Of course lawyers and legal wh0res like myself love this sh!t...
