Excessive gaming has same signs as drug addictions
New research hints that gamers that play to excess have the same hallmarks as people with drug addictions.


From New Scientist, [Sabine Grusser of the Charite University Medicine Berlin, in Germany] and her colleague Ralf Thalemann wanted to see if computer game cues could also trigger similar 'drug memories' in excessive computer gamers."

"They compared 15 men in their 20s who admitted that gaming had chased other activities such as work and socialising ֖ out of their lives, and 15 game-playing but otherwise healthy controls."

"They showed them a variety of visual cues and asked the volunteers to rate how they felt about the images. All had normal reactions to neutral images, such as chairs, and even to alcohol-related images, despite the fact that all the participants drank alcohol."

"But excessive computer game players showed classic signs of craving when they were presented with freeze-frames from some of their favourite games they desperately wanted to play, expected to feel better once they did, and fully intended to indulge again as soon as possible."

WOW that is something. Didn't know that they would compare Video Games to Drugs. Course in away that is also messed up, imagine if people like that were looking at there favourite game commercials, they would go nuts if they didnt have that game with them

You can get call of duty without an XBox 360. You do relise that it is also for the PS2 and XBox right?

Yep I know, but I want it for the Xbox 360 its looks amazing.

Are you talking about the comercial for it looks amazing? Because if you are, all comercials can make a games graphics look a lot more amazing than what they really are. It's called cinematic features. You can do it with Ps2 as well.

I know what he's talking about, mOB... the (actual) graphics on the 360 look just like they do in the commercial.

But I NEVER buy games for "just the graphics"...

Exactly. Graphics does not make the game, the gameplay makes the game. Look at FF VII. HORRIBLE graphics but one of the best games ever created! It's all about the storyline and gameplay.

yes its official; by the numbers, online gaming is more addictive than crack.
