Andy Rooney - Opinions of Life

I didn't write this, but I feel they are some strong opinions. I would like to hear your points of view on the following and also to discuss these opinions.

Andy Rooney said on 60 minutes a few weeks back: (for those of you that don't know Andy Rooney, he is a 82 year old US TV commentator)

I like big cars, big boats, big motorcycles, big houses and big campfires.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squi rting out babies.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of probability.

I know what sex is, and there are not varying degrees of it. If I received sex from one of my subordinates in my office, it wouldn't be a private matter or my personal business. I would be "FIRED" immediately!

I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry self if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation recount votes when needed. I know what the definition of lying is.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me french fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.

Seriously, enough of the racist bull ****. Why the hell should minorities get affirmative action just because they are a minority? Why is it that everytime something doesn't go a minority's way they shout racism? Why is it that they continue to see things as a competition between races? It absolutely redicouls how bad it is.

Am I a racist? No. I have plenty of black/hispanic friends who agree whole-heartedly with me. This nation has to stop being so God damned ignorant and grow up.

A-FREAKING-MEN! Finally somebody said it. Affirmative action is in no way equal.

It is complete BS when two people get in a fight and if one of them turns out to be gay or black it is all of sudden a hate crime. Why can't I hate you for you?

Two kids (one black, one white) got in an argument at school because one kid (the black guy) thought that this other kid said something about his girlfriend. Well anyway the two kids got in a fight at a local school and this black kid just absolutley beat the **** out of this white kid. The administration did nothing except expel him for two days. They called it a high school disturbance and that time away from school would teach him (yeah whatever). The white kids friend was targeted (yes I said targeted) next. The black kid started talking crap the day he got back, pushed first, and threw the first punch. The white kid is a black belt in karate and basically returned the favor. The cops got involved, he was sent to juvy and tried for a hate crime. That's complete BS. This is Utah and I think they try to hard to protect minorites.

Just so you know...ignorance runs rampid with our youth...only way a crime can be tried under "hate" crime is if during the actuall offence the person is saying derogatory things about that persons race/sexual preference. In this case it is obviously hate and the dirtbag should get the death sentence since i dont wanna pay his bill why hes in jail. The fight you spoke of im sure you werent right there. Ive seen it many times...the fight starts the "N" word comes out and just sets things off. People need to get off that shyt because it does nothing but make your azzwhoopin worse.Im also sure he went after the "friend" when he got back cause like most young white kids that think they are tough (cough like on socom cough) his friend was probably talkin mad shyt to the black guy before he was expelled....this = huge azzwhoopin from the black guy when he gets back...simple math really. See I enjoy his remarks usually but then he goes and says something that just makes him look like a fool. Number one they have these things because regardless if you want to admit it or not racism is still part of our culture. I live in this south and this is paramount around here and quite sickening at times. If it weren’t for some programs (college funds) then it would only put the African Americans even further behind because there will always be some racist pig that will try and hold them back. Also what is wrong with having a magazine such as jet, or a tv station as BET? Nothing in my eyes….it gives them something to RELATE too which is easier for us as white folk to do since everything around us is drenched in whiteness……I will go in greater detail into my thoughts on the next quote….

This has got to be the DUMBEST thing he has said in years clearly…. Sure if you forget about the past you could use this and it would be true but lets not forget that no white people came here as SLAVES folks…I could care less if you think its an “excuse” or not it happened and we cant just look at African Americans and ask how are they African?? THEY HAD NO CHOICE! Sure they are glad to be here but the circumstances on which they were brought here isn’t too good. Im not saying we should bend over backwards but to deny them their culture and where they came from since the had NO CHOICE is racist in itself. Atleast our (as in white folks) ancestors had a CHOICE to come here or not and id bet their boat ride was a lot better ;) (i wanna add....in no way am i saying that the african americans here today are the same as the ones that were forced into slavery nor do i think anything should just be given to ANYONE wether they be white,black,mexican,etc. Im just saying you have to cut people some slack especially with racism still being in our society. Racism still plays a big role in America to this day whether you like it or not. The KKK is still just a prefilant as it was years back. They may not be hanging people as much or burning crosses but they still spread the hatred which should have NO place in this country. Hell play socom and you will see the ignorance that is still in todays youth with the N word being thrown around like its nothing…..IDIOTS! Just shows we haven’t came as far as a lot of people thought. This is why some African Americans despise or are leary of the white man.For the most part it’s the motive behind our actions that spurs controversy and hate. I speak of the things from FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE since my ex wife is black and my son is mixed.

I will list some examples of racism below that I have faced while I was married to her….

While stationed in charleston I was looking for apartments to move closer to the base. I found one about 3 miles from the front gate but had gone 3 days later WITHOUT my wife. Well when I went back to sign the papers on the day the woman told me to come back with my wife to sign when they saw my wife was BLACK all of a sudden they had sold it somehow…..im sorry but that’s RACIST considering I was TOLD to come back that day to sign the papers since id already told her the apartment was fine.

Ive been told by white people while married that I married her for sex and she married me to “better” herself…umm that’s about as racist of a comment as you can get there.

Ive been told by having my son he will only be tortured and confused since he is mixed….confused about WHAT??!!! He will be a ****ing man nomatter what race he is. Why do we even use this race system when applying for something. It shouldn’t matter what race you are. You are YOU and that’s all it should be. When we realize America is made up of PEOPLE and not 60% white, 40%black, etc(whatever the %’s are I have no clue just using those as examples). When we separate races like this it will only lead to more racism down the line. Too much is put on the differences of cultures instead of giving everyone a fair chance. Ive been through way more racist bullshyt than any white man that hasn’t been married to a woman of color and seen what African Americans go through since I was clumped into them by the majority of the rednecks, racist pukes. One thing ive grown to not tolerate is racism out of stupidity. I mean if you wanna hate on someone have a valid reason not the color of their skin…this isn’t the 1800s folks…we should have overcome this by now. Nobody is asking for a free ride…just a free shake in life as in not being judged by color or beliefs. Some may not agree with me and that’s fine but I speak with first hand knowledge which most of you will never know unless you are black or married to someone of a different race. It isn’t all candy and roses. Whats even sadder is the fact I was MORE accepted within African Americans than whites after my marriage andmy son was born. I have no problem with this because I don’t see color I judge people by there attitudes and how they carry themselves. Once everyone else learns to do this then things may finally work out for the best interest of this country…until then it will be divided by cultures….

Remember though…one day white people will be the minority here and you will damn sure wish you were nicer to others once this happens ;)

Lu, I whole heartedly agree. But, the problem lies in the minorities. The majority of the minorities what to STAY considered as a minority. This hardly helps the racisim issue, as our tax dollars are spent to have equal "racial" representation in schools and colleges although there might be a more qualified white student.

Who do we blame here? Minorities have no one to blame because they have a free ticket into life, while other caucasian students are given the shovel. If I was to point at who's racist, I'd point at minorities and Democrats.

Applying programs and fundings to only ONE specific ethnicity group, or organization directed for one race, is racisim. Democrats consistantly levy the programs for the Senate and House claiming, "They're in need to have a better life." I only ask, "Why don't they attempt to have a better life that minuses the drugs, violence, and crimes?"

Face it. The racism in this country will not go away until the minorities stop holding their hand out for those checks given to them by the Democrats. If we stop harboring the minorities as a scared child and allow everyone to have equal opportunity based on qualification (NOT RACE), we might have a society that sees a man only by his intellect and abilitiy (NOT RACE).

What's absurd is when you call someone black or asian or gay for that matter instead of some politically correct term and they are offended. People need to stop being insecure about their race and be proud of it.
