Well, for me, I am a sniper, so as I am going along, I will use the NV. Then, when I finally spot a bright green spot from far away, I will switch to thermal and shoot them.

Last night I was playing Blackwoods at night and was hanging out in the clearing with the downed logs near the Seal 'Base'. I had a RA-14 with Thermal Scope and Lazer Sight. All the way across the clearing in NV I see the glowing bodies of 2 seals coming out to snipe the area. So I target them and go to thermal: Nope, too far away! Thermal wasn't effective in sniping from long distance. I actually just had to target them in NV and put some single shots into their heads from there.
So, unless Thermal Scope has a different effective range when attached to a sniper rifle, you're out of luck trying that tactic. Not to say that thermal isn't useful in finding people in the dark, it very much is, but I'm not sure how it goes for sniping, cause long range in Thermal was ineffective, while NV was great, even if the target is tiny.
