"More than 100,000 players log into SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs everyday to play. As fans of the franchise know, it's no fun playing with cheaters and those who try to exploit the game for their own advantage. To address this in SOCOM 3, we are using a common practice of requiring verified accounts for players who choose to participate in features such as ranked games and clan challenges.

The main reason SOCOM 3 verifies accounts through a credit card is to encourage unique accounts and fair play (no cheating or exploits) in ranked games and clan challenges.

It is important to note that supplying a credit card is not necessary to play online. However if you choose to use the advanced online features such as participating in clans, leaderboards/rankings, friends lists, clan challenges, etc., a credit card is used to verify the SOCOM 3 online account. The credit card is not charged; it is used for verification purposes only.

With SOCOM 3 account verification, we are providing to players a more secure online environment while still keeping the online play free. This is a very important goal for the SOCOM 3 team and with more than 100,000 verified accounts, it seems to be working. We've received a lot of very positive feedback from people who have verified their account. They've already noticed that the environment is much friendlier than in past SOCOM games.

Its much friendlier because people are scarred that the credit cards are used for banning purposes and if they get out of hand with racist remarks or anything they will be banned. I really wish they had it like telephone number verification where you verify and a machine calls you and they ask like for a pin number or soemthing that was given...because not too many people have 40 phone numbers to make glitch names or tk names on...but it would be nice to have 2 verified names like say I wanna join a clan ive been with for ages...but then I want to do gb and they wont so i make a new name for gb clans...

what they stated about it the credit card is true, but there's also another reason. i'm a i have a MBS, masters in business sceince with a specification in marketing. this whole thing is a marketing tactic. credit cards hold so much information about a person reguarding age, sex, demographics, spending habits and the list goes on but what the marketing team would do is take this information and find out who is playing, what age groups and income levels, where in the world the game is being played so they can find their greatest target market. and it helps better understand the consumer for future releases, where to hit the hardest and how to go about it. that's one of the #1 reasons for having us all put in credit card info. but that's just a basic explanation
