You are forgetting about development costs, advertising costs, printing costs, publishing costs, distribution costs, etc...
Zipper isn't getting a check for $50 x "Total # of games sold". That isn't how a business works.
Why do you think PC developers are switching to smaller box sizes, DVD, small manuals (a lot of times in PDF now), etc..? Because it costs a lot of money to create, advertise, and eventually distribute games.
Sometimes, costs > Return.
