Forums Leading Up To Socom 3
Ok guys, I have seen far too much of this in the Socom3 Sections. I think people are forgetting the purpose for this section and this forum. We are bringing together the Socom community to enrich gameplay and social discussions between many people in the same boat as ourselves. Here at Socom3.com we all share atleast one thing. That is we all love or have loved Socom at one point or another.

Don't judge a book by its' cover
Now, this section was made to discuss anything and everything pertaining to Socom3. This part of the forum is meant to discuss what we hear about socom3, or released information and footage. I for one, and I am sure I can find a vast majority of people who concur with me on this one, am sick and tired of hearing people complaining about new features or ripping on a game that has not even been released yet. I want this forum to stay positive. If you do not like Socom3, this simply is not your section or even your forum perhaps. You can, as all of us do daily, keep your opinions to yourselves. We do not need to hear complaints or whining about a game when most of us have not even played it.

The select few of us who have had the honor and priviledge to test Socom3 have now concluded our duties to Sony and Zipper. We have tried our hardest to relay all possible information without breaching our contractual obligations to Sony and Zipper. For those of you who have played Socom3 Beta and hated it, then Socom will just not be for you anymore. Either stay on SocomII and enjoy it, or leave Socom and the community behind forever. Most of you do not realize that it was an unfinished game. You simply think you get to play the finished product with just one available level online. This is just not the case. There is still much to do and be accomplished before it hits shelves.

Those of us who have seen footage or pictures of Socom3 should not judge the game. Those too are from an unfinished product. Glitches, game errors, or graphics will not be the same in the final product. The videos are simply glimpses of the game we are destined to wait for. This is simply marketing, and they are doing a damn good job mind you. I must remind you all of an age old saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." Now you may think this does not apply to Socom3, but indeed it does. You, and I mean those of you who have not played Beta, are doing just this. Videos or Images are not going to tell you everything about the game. If you see a patch of lag or a glitch you automatically believe the game is going to be a terrible one.

Misconceptions and Forum-goer Ideas
Several things need to be brought to the table in this post. I want to clear some common misconceptions up with you all. These are some rumors and ideas that are not going to be in Socom3. They might be good wishes and dreams to aspire to in hopes of it being in Socom, but they will not.

1. Socom3 Maps: There are going to be absolutely no Socom or SocomII maps in Socom3. This is a guarantee and a proven fact. They may release remakes of favorites with the HDD come Christmas or so, but not for the initial release.

2. Co-Operative: Co-Operative play for online or offline will not be in Socom3. This is a major disappointment for all of us. I would have loved to play online Co-Op for missions, but this will NOT be in Socom3.

3. Weapons: Any gun not listed in the Weapons List presented in this section of the forums has a slim to none chance of getting into Socom3. I can tell you flat out right now that the OICW will NOT be in Socom3 either way.

4. Host Control: The host still has limited powers. When I say limited ofcourse I mean he has no powers whatsoever in which he can control the game any more than someone else in the room.

5. Voting: The voting system has not been changed. At this point is seems they have found a good system in which it is hard to vote someone to warn them about enemies nearby, aswell as taking away any ability for the host to kick somebody or force the game. This allows a good balance of power in the room. Votes are still based on majority.

6. Vehicle Balance: Vehicles are not going to ruin Socom3. Now you all might be saying it is simply opinion. However, you are looking at a guy who thought the exact same thing you did and even despised vehicles when first word came of them being in Socom3. After playing, I can say they are mainly used for protection and transport. True they have a powerful weapon on most vehicles, but they are also weak to gunfire and passengers are very vulnerable. Hence the balance of powers.

7. Weapon Balance: There will be no "n00bie" weapons in Socom3. Another opinion, if you take it that way, but it is pretty true. You don't think about it being a "n00bie" gun when you are killed. The weapons are very well balanced this time around. Encumbrance will also help balance the playing field. If you have a rocket or an M203 you will travel slowly whereas a player with an HK5 with limited supplies will travel faster and move faster. There is much more balance as you can see.

8. Lag: You are all saying, "LAG!!!11111!!!1111one!!!1111 OMFG LAGGY N3WB!!!!111!!" Now let me break your hearts. Are you ready for this? There is virtually no lag. Many of you have heard me talk of this "grid system" before. Maybe you don't quite get it. I will explain now, and I am not trying to be an *** here. If you are in a grid in the bottom left of the map and a firefight is going on in the top left grid. You don't have to be sent the packages and revert them back to the host for every movement, bullet, explosion, and death. You will only have to load your immediate area meaning your grid and those surrounding you. Now, with scopes and such you will be able to see fights and still shoot people out of your grid into another one farther away, but for the most part you won't have to load as much. This will make the game run more smoothly. This was literally the only way to allow 32 people in one room without constant crashes.

9. Internet Connections: Another issue I see is with people arguing about connections. Will dial up or DSL still be allowed? Not really, but let me explain further. This new system gets rid of 90% of the lag, but the other 10% comes from the people themselves and their crap connections. Don't worry, the game has you covered there. When you reach a certain connection or idle period the game booted you from the room on Socom2. What zipper did with Socom 3 is decrease the time to idle in a room and increase the required connection to play in a room. This means that if you have DSL there is a significant chance of you being booted from most of the rooms you join. This also means that if your connection goes dead or loses activity you will be instantly kicked from a room. This prevents cord pulling or lagging in an excessive amount.

10. Cheating: Ok, now moving on to cheating and user feedback. I don't know much about how with will work in Socom3's final release, but I can tell you what I know so far. There is a built in message board you can access online just like rankings or your clan roster. They have general discussions and feedback boards that they read daily. Here is the catch, it is quite the pain in the *** to operate them. Or atleast it was in Beta. They are pretty good with reading the threads and feedback from users. If you complain about a cheater or exploiter they will probably look into it. Socom3 is extremely user friendly. Now, we all know Zipper or Sony are not ones to banish people from their games and lose customers. What they will probably do is work to close up and fix glitches or exploits faster this time around. Here is where the "maybe" Zipper said about moderators online comes in to play. They would read threads and investigate people or glitches online and work to fix them. This system would produce a more friendly and cheat-free environment.

The Release of Socom3
The release of socom3 is up and coming. I know it got here so fast, the time literally flew. It seems like only a few weeks ago when I first learned of Socom3. With this release we will see hundreds or even thousands of new members joining daily. I wouldn't be suprised if we got a jump of a thousand members within the first couple weeks of it's release. There is more of a demand for a community. Many old Socom players will return who we thought were long ago lost to other games and led away from Socom. We must all do our very best to help the new members and lead them through example. Older members shouldn't post garbage. You have been here long enough to know what the mods tolerate or even what I tolerate.

I hope we can all make the final weeks leading up to Socom3 contructive ones. Many of us have gone back to school and will not be checking the site as much as we had over the summer. Some may be checking it more. What is certain is that new members will always be around the forums. Try not to give them such a hard time. Help them out rather than mock them or complain about them every time they post. If they do not know the rules try and explain them in a rational and calm fashion. Violence never solves anything, and it is so true. Even when there is violence there needs to be some control and mature reasoning involved to settle differences.

Conclusion and Ending Remarks
For those of you who are constantly posting and adding a lot to our community, I thank you. Those of you who don't post as much as others or who don't post to help the community or forum, all I can ask of you is to try harder to post things that will be helpful to the forums and an asset to the topic at hand.

Now, you may all think I am a bit of a hard *** when it comes to moderation, but I assure you I am doing a great job. I am sorry to have to mod, and no I am not power hungry. Modding is a tough job. It takes a lot of time and effort, so why would I want to do it all the time? Truth is I took this job to help what I viewed as a dieing section of our forums. Everyone avoided this section at all costs. Too much clutter and unorganization. I view myself as somewhat of a neat freak which works wonders in some cases, modding being one of them. These sections have never been cleaner. I am trying to make this section the most popular section on our forums. Damn those posters in the Offtopic discussion! I do what I can and honestly it pays off. I have had my differences with some of you, but you know I work my butt off to give you guys all the information as well as the best community I can offer you.

In the weeks leading up to Socom3 I will need you posters more than ever to lead our newer members that will undoubtably be joining us. We can push the community to a level it has never been too before when Socom3 is released. You will notice several changes to the section that will take place, but I don't know when. When this does take place be sure to post in the right sections and give our Socom3 days of this forum a good jump start.

That is all, and thank you for the months you guys here at the forum have given me so far. I intend for there to be many ahead.
