I agree that it was corny but you have to realize the meaning behind it. One of Romero's visions with the 4 movies was that the "zombies" were slowly able to think and each movie they got progressively more intelligent. Dawn of the Dead saw Flyboy remember where the secret entrance was to upstairs. He also dangled a gun with one finger which looked VERY corny but it served a purpose. In Day of the Dead, Bub actually shot a gun and saluted afterwards. And in Land, Big Daddy rallied all the dead to attack the city using every method possible.
Romero is a master of using horror with an occasional taste of "cornyness" to reflect his view of society. I could type for days about how Land of the Dead symbolized present day earth as well as the future.
But I won't so go watch it yourself.
