Oh, forget it.... (EVERYBODY READ!!!) -Boba

I have been lurking here for years now, though I do not post much. I just wanted to make myself clear at the end of my visit. This place has gone down the crapper.

I understand that it takes funds to run a site like this, and the mods/admins would like to save effort, but this is getting out of hand.

Every thread is exactly the same. First the question/comment, then one of the "regulars" saying "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON, NOOB!!!"

There seems to be nothing that can be said that hasn't already been discussed previously. My advice is that you shut this site down and archive all discussions. Then people will be forced to search instead of simply asking a question on a damn discussion board.

I thank the owners/operators for all they have done here, but I cannot take it anymore.

p.s. Yeah, yeah...I know this has been said before, so I will perform a preemptive strike and say:

USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!

-thank you, that is all.

I agree. I get kind of sick of the regulars yelling at everyone for spelling, grammar, not searching, etc.

You guys need to relax and let us handle what needs to be handled.

I can't believe anyone would post a 3 paragraph response, belittling someone for misspelling two or three words. That is pretty stupid.

Wrong forum n00b0rt. This should be in suggestions so it can be shot down immediately. If you don't like it leave. I'm sure you'd enjoy people saying this about a site that you personally pay for, soley for your own private use.
EDIT: He does have a point. But really, shut down the web site?

I agree 100% with the exception of the shutting down part. It makes me sick to my stomach every time I see the word "search" for whatever reason. I'd rather see some little inbred amphibious rodent start a topic about "i LuV GliTcHiNg dOnT U lolz" then see somebody say "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON". At least we can have some fun with the moron instead of seeing the good ol' "SEARCH" - "BAM" tactic.

I hope ALL who read this remember one thing......

If you have nothing to say, then you say nothing. The moderators are here to make your life EASIER. Please don't make our lives more difficult then they already are. We sincerely appreciate your help, and we thank you for the extra hand. If anyone encounters a "SEARCH YOU NOOB" situation, PLEASE just answer the question (no matter how stupid it is) or don't post. Of course after providing an answer/statement, feel free to add a good ol' "Hey you can always use the search button to help find most information you could ever need. Have a nice day!"......

just for old times sake

Thank you everybody!!! (especially ams)

I got a suggestion, why don't the mods lay back a while from the locking and only lock neccesary* topics. I mean it takes a long time to search now because of all the threads we have, theres a lot! And a lot of those topics that people refer them too are locked allready. Whats the fun of that. Some people are here to discuss also not just read.

This is obviously long, but please read it the whole thing, as I feel I make some great points:

I have no problem with duplicate topics, in fact, I once started a thread called "Duplicate Topics = Good". Do a search and you'll find it :)

However, in this discussion that I started, I was referring to threads and topics that are worthwhile to discuss!

The problem I have is that it seems too many duplicate posts in the "Online Gaming" forum ARE the same, and their all asking about glitching, rank, rankup, noob guns, is this a glitch, etc!

"Is this a noob gun" or "Is this a glitch" or "How does rank work" are all pointless threads, and the answer can be found easily using search or just scanning the first page of the forum. Because honestly, posting the same crap about the same crap is just spam. When theres 5 different 'noob gun' threads on the first page, theres no reason to start a 6th.

Personally, I rather talk about an interesting, new, WORTHWHILE topic than rehash the same garbage or beat the same dead horse. This is why I'm the Tips & Tactics mod. You won't find any spam about noobie guns or rankup in my forum. You find quality topics that help people play better. It's worthwhile for people to read. It creates VALUE for this web site. Filling the site with spam creates NO value... which is why these topics should just be straight up banned. Yes theres definately less topics and less discussion in my forum, but its all more quality stuff. I rather see this website become a place for real Socom players to come and discuss things, and not a place for 12 year old kids who can't follow basic rules.

IMO any threads pertaining to the topics I just listed, (glitching, rankup, noob guns) should be locked immediately, because they crowd the board and are pointlesss. Plus they have been discussed a hundred times, so yeah, if someone needs to find out if the IW is a noob gun, they SHOULD use search - or even easier - just scroll down the first page or two! Theres no reason to start a topic just because your too lazy to look for the answer yourself. Then again it also makes no sense that people will start a topic and wait 24 hours for an answer instead of just searching the forums!

I'm glad this topic was actually started, because it does make some good points. Lately, I've been avoiding the Online Gaming forum all together because it is all lame threads about glitching or noob guns or rank. Yes its true. Or its about 12 year olds flaming one another. Personally, I don't care for these topics or these people. Getting rid of topics and people who hurt the board in turn will HELP the board, because it will attract more quality and maturer posters, and better topics. I don't think we should stop locking topics or saying use search, in fact, I think rules should be more enforced. I think more topics should be locked, and I think that people who want to be a part of the community should follow the rules, or be banned. It's that simple, and it would make the mods jobs a lot easier... and make the Online Gaming forum a forum that people will enjoy posting in again.

I personally think that because theres so many lame topics, that noobie, lame people come on here, and think these are the cool things to talk about in this forum. They read about the IW being a noob gun thread, next thing you know, they are starting the M14 noob gun thread. They read the "Is this a glitch" thread, then they wonder if something else they saw is a glitch, so they start a different thread about a different glitch. And it just feeds upon itself.

You don't see any of these posts in my forum because it's just not discussed at all, nor tolerated, because its not relevent. People read about tips and tactics, and they think about them, and they post about them. People don't go from reading about the M4A1SD and how it works and how to use it, and then out of the blue, start a glitch topic. Its that simple. On the flip side, in Online Gaming, they go from reading about noobie guns and glitches, to posting about them. Get rid of them entirely, and you've solved the problem. Sure they are somewhat relevent to Online Gaming, but not really. Online play is NOT all about noobie guns and glitching or ranking up, it's just not! Yet this forum pretty much is.

Duplicate topics are not bad, IF they have a worthwhile point!

One last point. I see some topics getting locked for no reason whatsoever, then I see some noob gun threads or glitch threads get locked, then half or the noob gun or glitch topics DONT get locked. Then I see topics getting locked for going "off topic" or because a mod deems its not a worthwhile discussion. This is what annoys me. Either enforce the rules as they are, or don't. I don't see what the discrepency is, or why a mod can choose to lock one noobie gun thread and leave another one open. Either lock them all or don't lock any of them.
-And if a thread doesn't have flaming and isn't about a banned topic, just leave them be. It's crap that a mod can lock a thread just because he doesn't like it, even if it's totally fine and people are enjoying the discussion. THESE are the threads that should be left alone. This just reminds me that I recently made a topic called 'l337' which was about the so called "Elite talk" or "L337 talk". It was interesting and funny. People were enjoying the discussion. Then all of a sudden its locked. I PM Otter to say whats up, unlock my thread, and he says it's not relevent, so it's locked. Thats BS. It certainly wasn't hurting anyone, and wasn't a duplicate topic. Meanwhile 3 out of 6 rankup threads don't get locked. It's BS I tell you.

Here, you decide:

Here's my l337 thread that gets locked for no reason:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=15730

Here's a noob gun thread that got locked the same day it was posted:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=15613

Here's a noob gun thread that's been going on for 3 weeks, yet says nothing we haven't heard 1000 times previously in 100 previous posts:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=15352

You tell me which posts should be locked. I'd also like to hear how the decision is made to lock noob gun thread #1, yet noob gun thread #2 stays open.

Like I said, enforce the rules in entirety, or not at all.

BTW I'm not trying to flame the mods around here, I think they do a great job. I just think theres too much discrepency. We have some mods who are like me and can't stand certain topics for the 1000th time, then other mods are more lenient and put up with dupe topics. Some have a hair trigger on that lock button, some don't. Some would rather lock a topic than put a kind message in there asking posters to clean up their act. All I'm saying is that the policies are in place, but not all the mods enforce the rules equally. That's what needs work, and thats why people get upset.

Anyway, for the most part, I'm sticking to my own forum, but I'm glad I got the chance to express my opinions on this.

I disagree! It is actually a very short process. If you end up with too many pages after your search, change the search terms or specify a category.

Of course, but I don't think that that is the problem since the moderators tend to leave those open. Unless the previous topic is still open, there isn't any reason to split the topic. But if the earlier topic was locked due to one member ruining it, the new topic is fine. I believe that Boba said the same thing somewhere.

I agree with ams.
I have been here a good while and dont do much posting, but rather watching.
I too, have noticed that this forum is getting a bit out of control so that is why i chose to stay out of posting in certain topics alone.

*Will be editing*

You're right Mr.14-year-old... Us mods lock **** just because we want to. We lock whatever we want just because I feel that sudden urge to do it.

My guidelines for 'locks' and 'deletions' of posts are as followed:
Does NOT comply to the 8-word rule
The newer member obviously did not take the time to submerge to the environment of the forum and learn from what we do here before posting a very retarded topic
The post possibly will envoke a Flame War.
The post is so horribly grammar-ed that even I could not understand and fix it.

Most of what I lock and delete are from this simple rule:
Quote:
Does NOT comply to the 8-word rule
But lately, I've been ramping up on the Grammar issue once again. Please don't make me have to bring back Grammar-Fixer. That was a serious pain in the arse, but it got the job done.

Ams and anyone else whos NEW or just doesnt post alot but scans the forums.....

i think the majority of the forums understand how YOU feel and all we ask is you understand how WE feel.as you said you and some others dont post alot and thats fine if you dont we are glad to have you registered and reading posts, we cant make nor want to make ANYONE post if they dont want too, at the same time for the members that are ALWAYS here and posting some stuff does get redundant.

heres the problem in a nutshell, SOCOM 2 is OLD!!!!! yep im sure most already know this but its where the center of the problem lies.when socom 3 comes out things will be back to normal, most topics wont be locked and we can move on as a community.

now at the same time there will be those people who refuse to look on the same page and see 3 posts about what they are about to start a new one for and those people irritate more than me.if ppl get pissed for being told to use the search button especially on something on the same page or next one then its no loss to us.we arent babysitters!i personally wont post shyt in these topics like use search ets untill its there 3rd or 4th go d@m time doin the same thing cause at this point i decide they are dumb @sses and not making an easy mistake.

i will close with SOCOM2 is OLD ppl once again and this is why tension is up on some of the crap being posted.about everything that can possibly be said about socom2 has been said sad to say and i really feel once socom 3 hits this will be a happy thriving community.so please have patience and use common sence when posting thats all we ask.

a concerned citizen,
Lu
