This is obviously long, but please read it the whole thing, as I feel I make some great points:
I have no problem with duplicate topics, in fact, I once started a thread called "Duplicate Topics = Good". Do a search and you'll find it :)
However, in this discussion that I started, I was referring to threads and topics that are worthwhile to discuss!
The problem I have is that it seems too many duplicate posts in the "Online Gaming" forum ARE the same, and their all asking about glitching, rank, rankup, noob guns, is this a glitch, etc!
"Is this a noob gun" or "Is this a glitch" or "How does rank work" are all pointless threads, and the answer can be found easily using search or just scanning the first page of the forum. Because honestly, posting the same crap about the same crap is just spam. When theres 5 different 'noob gun' threads on the first page, theres no reason to start a 6th.
Personally, I rather talk about an interesting, new, WORTHWHILE topic than rehash the same garbage or beat the same dead horse. This is why I'm the Tips & Tactics mod. You won't find any spam about noobie guns or rankup in my forum. You find quality topics that help people play better. It's worthwhile for people to read. It creates VALUE for this web site. Filling the site with spam creates NO value... which is why these topics should just be straight up banned. Yes theres definately less topics and less discussion in my forum, but its all more quality stuff. I rather see this website become a place for real Socom players to come and discuss things, and not a place for 12 year old kids who can't follow basic rules.
IMO any threads pertaining to the topics I just listed, (glitching, rankup, noob guns) should be locked immediately, because they crowd the board and are pointlesss. Plus they have been discussed a hundred times, so yeah, if someone needs to find out if the IW is a noob gun, they SHOULD use search - or even easier - just scroll down the first page or two! Theres no reason to start a topic just because your too lazy to look for the answer yourself. Then again it also makes no sense that people will start a topic and wait 24 hours for an answer instead of just searching the forums!
I'm glad this topic was actually started, because it does make some good points. Lately, I've been avoiding the Online Gaming forum all together because it is all lame threads about glitching or noob guns or rank. Yes its true. Or its about 12 year olds flaming one another. Personally, I don't care for these topics or these people. Getting rid of topics and people who hurt the board in turn will HELP the board, because it will attract more quality and maturer posters, and better topics. I don't think we should stop locking topics or saying use search, in fact, I think rules should be more enforced. I think more topics should be locked, and I think that people who want to be a part of the community should follow the rules, or be banned. It's that simple, and it would make the mods jobs a lot easier... and make the Online Gaming forum a forum that people will enjoy posting in again.
I personally think that because theres so many lame topics, that noobie, lame people come on here, and think these are the cool things to talk about in this forum. They read about the IW being a noob gun thread, next thing you know, they are starting the M14 noob gun thread. They read the "Is this a glitch" thread, then they wonder if something else they saw is a glitch, so they start a different thread about a different glitch. And it just feeds upon itself.
You don't see any of these posts in my forum because it's just not discussed at all, nor tolerated, because its not relevent. People read about tips and tactics, and they think about them, and they post about them. People don't go from reading about the M4A1SD and how it works and how to use it, and then out of the blue, start a glitch topic. Its that simple. On the flip side, in Online Gaming, they go from reading about noobie guns and glitches, to posting about them. Get rid of them entirely, and you've solved the problem. Sure they are somewhat relevent to Online Gaming, but not really. Online play is NOT all about noobie guns and glitching or ranking up, it's just not! Yet this forum pretty much is.
Duplicate topics are not bad, IF they have a worthwhile point!
One last point. I see some topics getting locked for no reason whatsoever, then I see some noob gun threads or glitch threads get locked, then half or the noob gun or glitch topics DONT get locked. Then I see topics getting locked for going "off topic" or because a mod deems its not a worthwhile discussion. This is what annoys me. Either enforce the rules as they are, or don't. I don't see what the discrepency is, or why a mod can choose to lock one noobie gun thread and leave another one open. Either lock them all or don't lock any of them.
-And if a thread doesn't have flaming and isn't about a banned topic, just leave them be. It's crap that a mod can lock a thread just because he doesn't like it, even if it's totally fine and people are enjoying the discussion. THESE are the threads that should be left alone. This just reminds me that I recently made a topic called 'l337' which was about the so called "Elite talk" or "L337 talk". It was interesting and funny. People were enjoying the discussion. Then all of a sudden its locked. I PM Otter to say whats up, unlock my thread, and he says it's not relevent, so it's locked. Thats BS. It certainly wasn't hurting anyone, and wasn't a duplicate topic. Meanwhile 3 out of 6 rankup threads don't get locked. It's BS I tell you.
Here, you decide:
Here's my l337 thread that gets locked for no reason:

Here's a noob gun thread that got locked the same day it was posted:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=15613
Here's a noob gun thread that's been going on for 3 weeks, yet says nothing we haven't heard 1000 times previously in 100 previous posts:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=15352
You tell me which posts should be locked. I'd also like to hear how the decision is made to lock noob gun thread #1, yet noob gun thread #2 stays open.
Like I said, enforce the rules in entirety, or not at all.
BTW I'm not trying to flame the mods around here, I think they do a great job. I just think theres too much discrepency. We have some mods who are like me and can't stand certain topics for the 1000th time, then other mods are more lenient and put up with dupe topics. Some have a hair trigger on that lock button, some don't. Some would rather lock a topic than put a kind message in there asking posters to clean up their act. All I'm saying is that the policies are in place, but not all the mods enforce the rules equally. That's what needs work, and thats why people get upset.
Anyway, for the most part, I'm sticking to my own forum, but I'm glad I got the chance to express my opinions on this.
