All I read on the boards is how much people hate the XBOX. I could gaurantee that 95% of you guys do not even own one and therefore have no clue what you are talking about. You do not even know what you are missing out on. I am going to pull a cheesy here and actually create a thread that may cause you guys to think a little about what you are saying (I also feel I am long overdue for a thread that has meaning behind it).
Any crap posts or flame posts will be deleted right away...I hope to God that people actually read this with an open mind and try to post with the same objectivity that this thread was created with.
Why the XBOX is not crap!
XBOX vs PS2: Saving Games
The XBOX has an internal hard drive which allows players to save hundreds of games on it at no extra cost to the user. The Playstation has an 8MB memory card which must be purchased seperately from the system itself. 8MB is not a big memory card so serious gamers may have to buy more then one. That can add up over time.
WINNER: XBOX
REASON: XBOX owners don't have to spend any extra money to save thier games and not spending money I am told is a good thing.
XBOX vs PS2: Games
The Playstation holds an advantage over the XBOX here, but...that doesn't mean the XBOX doesn't possess a few gems of its own. Playstation has dominated XBOX with games like Gran Turismo, Socom, Splinter Cell, etc. XBOX however, has produced countless games which have reached "Platinum Status" (This is equal to playstations "Greatest Hits") such as Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, the Project Gotham Racing series, Hitamn Contracts, etc. Obviously both systems have games that have been able to please gamers over the years but the winner goes to...
WINNER: Playstation 2 (Barely, I'll explain why)
REASON: The PS2 has had more games come out then the XBOX has. Nobody is winning here because one system hasn't created a good game. PS2 is winning because it has out-produced XBOX in terms of quantity, not quality)
XBOX vs PS2: Hard Drive
As I have stated above, the XBOX has a very nice hard drive installed and the user does not have to go out and buy one so he can play his favorite games (Or buy it so he can play a few extra maps

). The PS2 has more or less forced the serious gamer to buy one of the these $100 dollar pieces to play newer games and like I stated above, newer maps for a certain game. Why couldn't the gaming companies create a game in which a hard drive was not necessary? Apparently
Polyphony was able to create an oustanding game without making use of a hard drive...oh well, some things need to be done I guess.
WINNER: XBOX
REASON: I stated above, not spending money is a good thing. Many kids cannot afford to spend $100 to play more advanced games, sorry Sony.
XBOX vs PS2: Graphics
As we have seen through the Gran Turismo series and a few of our other all-time favorites...when Sony wants something done well, they do it. Those games blow anything the XBOX has created out of the water. HOWEVER! XBOX is not producing games with Super Nintendo graphics. (I hate to use a game for more then one example but hey, what can ya do?) Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 are pretty kick-a$$, there is no denying that.
WINNER: Playstation 2
REASON: Go play Gran Turismo 4 and come back to me
XBOX vs PS2: Sound
Because I cannot play more than one game at a time I cannot compare the sound quality of every game. I don't think there is a clear cut winner here because every game brings something different to the table. Each system has it 1st prize winners, and both systems have thier disasters.
WINNER: Nobody, this category is a tie.
REASON: Read said paragraph above please.
XBOX vs PS2: Miscellaneous
Here is where the XBOX outshines the Playstation 10 to 1. Whatever the game is given is what you get. You do not get to customize your games in any way. The XBOX has a nifty little feature that I found to be amazing. The XBOX is able to take CDs and rip the songs. Now what good is it having a hard drive ful of songs? Oh boy! Certain games, for example Project Gotham Racing 2, take songs from the hard drive and play them while you play! Customizing the soundtrack for your favorite games sounds pretty damn good to me. Granted you cannot do this for every game, I realize. But you can do this to a couple games and that is better then none.
WINNER: XBOX
REASON: Read said paragraph above please.
On the subject of DVDs, the Playstation lets you use the controller as sort of a remote to control the actions of a normal DVD Player remots (eg. Next Chapter, Fast Forward, etc). The XBOX however forces you to go out and buy a remote and adaptor piece which runs a bill of about $30. Why? Who knows...probably so Microsoft can make a few extra bucks.
WINNER: Playstation 2
REASON: Like I said, not spending money is pretty damn good.
On the subject of controllers, there is no winner because this has to do with personal preference. Playstation has these cheap plastic jobs that I would have to say from experience must be treated like kings in order to maintain their usability (I made up that word I think). The size is pretty good but can be a little bit of a hassle if you have hands of a larger nature. The XBOX when it first came out ha thses gargantuan remotes that only Shaq could use. They realized what they did and created controllers that were similar in size to the PS2 controllers. The XBOX controllers are definitely more durable then the PS2 remotes and this is made obvious by the thicker plastic shell, the stability of the joysticks and the nice rebound after you push the triggers which are conveniently placed behind the remote where the hands naturally lie when holding the controller.
WINNER: Nobody
REASON: As stated in paragraph above, it is merely a matter of preference.
This is what I have found to be true. I have looked at both sides with an objective viewpoint and as you can see I have tried not to be biased in what I have said. I hope that after people read this they have realized that the XBOX doesn't "suck", it is a system just like every other system that has come before it. It has its pros and cons like every other system. Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.
