Most definately. Not going would be a bigger waste in my opinion. I've always found the Oriental culture to be one of the more interesting cultures out there. A pity I've, as of yet, not had a chance to go an experience it first hand. I think the experience will do you well too. Learn of other beliefs, customs, ways of living, etc., etc. Personally I think it'd be awesome to see some of the sites that Japan has to offer. Shrines, their sporting events, the food...I'd be in heaven :D .Not to mention that the women....mmmm(drool).....well, the other reasons I've stated are more important but you get the idea.
If you're having some trouble making up your mind, I suggest reading up on it a little. Check out some philosphy books, study on the cultural differences, history and all that good stuff. If ANY of it tweaks your interest in the slightest bit, GO. I personally think the experience will make you a better person in the long run.
Lu showed me some pictures of some of the different places he had the chance to go to while he was in the military: Egypt, Greenland, etc. And while the images are awesome (Egyptian pyrimids looked fricken suh-weet!!!) I could not begin to fathom actually being there. Some of these culture's (case in point: Japan) have been around for ages. True, the Japanese are as modern as it gets, but they've been able to hold on to and preserve alot of what is Japan. It's a chance that some don't even get in life so I say go for it.
Oh, and one last thing, don't let the stigma of "they don't like us" bother you too much. You'll find that anywhere you go, and I'm sure it's not the majority that feel that way. I personally think it's more to do with our politics than anything but that's an entirely different topic...
