Dont steal a cyber sword!

Quote:
A Shanghai online game player has stabbed to death a competitor who sold his cyber sword for real money.

The sale created a legal dilemma because China has no law covering the ownership of virtual weapons.

The China Daily newspaper reported that a Shanghai court was told Qiu Chengwei, 41, stabbed competitor Zhu Caoyuan repeatedly in the chest after he was told Zhu had sold his dragon sabre, used in the popular online game Legend of Mir 3,

The online game features heroes and villains, sorcerers and warriors, many of whom wield enormous swords.

Qiu and a friend jointly won their virtual weapon last February and lent it to Zhu, who then sold it for 7,200 yuan.

Qui went to the police to report the theft but was told the weapon was not real property protected by law.

"Zhu promised to hand over the cash but an angry Qui lost patience and attacked Zhu at his home, stabbing him in the left chest with great force and killing him," the court heard.

'Private property'

Newspaper reports on the incident did not specify the charge against Qiu but said he had given himself up to police and already pleaded guilty to intentional injury.

No verdict has been announced.

More and more online gamers are seeking justice through the courts over stolen weapons and credits.

"The armour and swords in games should be deemed as private property as players have to spend money and time for them," said Wang Zongyu, an associate law professor at Beijing's Renmin University of China.

But other experts are calling for caution.

"The assets of one player could mean nothing to others as they are by nature just data created by game providers," an unnamed lawyer for a Shanghai-based Internet game company said.

That really sucks. It's amazing how much people get inot these games. It kind of reminds me of this thing I read about Diablo 2. They had some charm in it that was a mistake and gave like +7 to all skills, and it sold on eBay for $700! Friggin unbelievable. Does anyone know how much American money 7,200 yuan is?

OMG people are crazy...That is what you call a uber nerd...Loves his RPGs so much that he would kill over it. It almost like a noob going around shoting people cause mOB pwned them in socom. I can see getting pissed over the lost time getting the item in a game, but not to kill over it. Some people really need some help. I'd hate to be the phycologist that examines him before he stands trail...I'd almost have to laugh at the crazy fool.

well i can understand bein pissed off at someone over that and heres why (by no means should you kill someone over it....maybe choke them down some to give them a lil hint that they are a scumbag and to not do it again but NOT KILL )

i played Everquest Online Adventures since the day it was released.i had a human ranger and at the time an All/All robe dropped and i was lucky enough to get one.it was called (ceremonial vestment) in this game at the time only Monks :D (which i also have his name is...LuFeng hence my socom 2 name :P ) and caster but not melee/tanks.this robe made it so your melee/tank could wear a robe which made you a lil different and stood out.well sony finally patched it and made it to where the robe didnt drop anymore and that is where the greed set in.ppl were stealin these from ppl etc and aa few just simply quit if that happened due to it being so hard to get.hell i was offered 500 dollars for it a few times but declined since i know id never get another.things like these ultra rare items are what ppl covet and strive to get in game to set themselves apart.

i know some of you dont fully understand why anyone would get so mad about something like that being stolen but these mmorpg's take alot of your time and when you put so much time into something and get a reward liek that to only have it stolen from you from some geek it kinda pisses you off.i still have my account and pay the 10 dollars a month although i dont play anymore so if i ever get the urge i can hop on(i know, i know a waste of 10 dollars a month if im not playin but hell its only 10 dollars)

bottom line is NOTHING in a game is worth killin over, maybe break a leg or arm or something but not worth KILLING!!! if you go that far you have far more serious problems and its not the games fault that you killed or did something stupid.ppl are time bombs and some ppl just need something to happen to go over the deep end.

i dont think this guy got pissed for the wrong reasons, although he did overreact.

The guy sold HIS sword for real money. and ppl everywhere kill for money. because once money gets involved everything goes wrong. especially if all you were trying to do was HAVE FUN. isnt that what gamings about?

Hey, if you let the guy somehow take precious sword and sell it for real money, you are a moron, no reason to throw a fit and kill someone (he was 41 wasn't he?) over a peice of ****ing online fantasy not-real crap. Damn...how did this guy know where the other guy lived?

This is so sad...

usually there are special sites that you can sell these items on and you wouldnt believe what some fetch.ive seen the same ceremonial vestment robe i have sell for over 700 us dollars on that site and some things ive seen sell for more.hell whole accounts ive seen sell for 2k easily depending what rares you have on them and the lvl of the characters.you can also search ebay etc for some items from these types of games.some ppl play them and get these things to make money and i know a few ppl who do.most likely he got the address etc through this type of system and inacted revenge.i do agree he went way too far but at the same time understanding the time needed to invest in these types of games i can still undertsand how hed be highly pissed.
