New maps = Not worth the $$
Geez think about it.. this game already has enough maps as it is. I don't even know the exact number anymore? 20 or thereabouts?? That's way more than enough, for me anyway...
Last Saturday I tried playing a Medley straight through from first map to the last.. ITS IMPOSSIBLE!! I was playing for hours on end and made it only 3/4 through... You just get burnt out playing for so goddamn long. So think about this.. you put in 3 hours playing.. you get to play what.. maybe 6 maps during that time.. So think about that.. if you play a Medley with these new maps.. you'll play one new map every what.. every 6 hours or so.. so what...
Ok so great, now you get to pay 100+ bucks for the Hard Drive, then another however much for 3 issues of a stupid magazine.. for another 3 maps? Woop dee doo. You'll know them front and back, soon enough, then what do you need to keep you entertained.. more maps?
The reason people play Socom as much as they do, and keep playing it, is because of the GAME PLAY. Look at Socom 1 - it didn't have nearly as many maps as Socom 2, but it's still one of the best games ever, and was very addicting... but it was the game play that kept people coming back.
Tripling (300%) the amount of maps from Socom 1 to 2 for only $50 is a big deal and a great value. Plus you got plenty of other changes going from 1 to 2. They changed the original maps, added all the new ones, fixed glitches, changed some of the gameplay...
But $100+ dollars for 15% more maps? I guess if you bought the harddrive back in the spring hoping that there would be tons of new maps to download, 3 maps might be exciting.. at least your getting something...
But its just not worth it to me... I'll stick with the 20 maps that come with the game, and save my $$ until Socom 3 comes out. Hell, for the price of 3 new maps for Socom 2, I'll save enough to buy a copy of Socom 3 and still have 50 bucks left over for an 1/8th. Now that sounds like a deal!
