I just watch blakc hawk down for the 10th time today and i saw the part where two snipers went to the heli crash site and try to rescue, well one of them was using a m4a1sd (im not 100% sure it is a m4a1 but it did has a silencer on it) and when it fired, it has a loud noise(not as loud as reg m4a1), i just want to know which one is the real one, the one on socom2 or the black hawk down.
I know what your talking about...and i'd have to see the but of the rifle to tell you if it were M4 or not. But i think it's just about the same thing.
yes, it was the M4A1 SD. but thats how real silenced weapons sounds. a silencer can not completley suppress a rifle so SOCOM is WAY off but i guess the reason they did that is to somewhat differ the M4A1 from the M4A1SD. a silencer only suppresses about half of the sound on an assault rifle. a handgun is different though depending on the size of the rounds used in that gun. but yea, Black Hawk Down is right.
Or the gun in socom is different...because in black hawk down the silencer screws to the end of the rifle...but in socom the silencer covers the entere barrel.
now that i think of it maybe that could be it. in black hawk down with the extra barrell extension since it is screwed to the barrell, it gives it more power and along with power comes noise. or zipper didnt really look that far into detail. it could be any one of these but those are basically your two options there.
The one on BHD (Black Hawk Down) is the real one, also on the movie Tears of the Sun, the characters called Flea and Lake, they use the M4A1 SD, and yes it drops the noise in half.
if you think of it though, it depends on the silencer. if it still has the extended barrell, its going to be louder than what it would be but will have more range and power. and i believe that a silencer on a M4A1 is only completley or almost completley silent past 50 meters

Zippers' version of the M-4 is not a good representation of the real thing. Although every member of a team has a specific weapon for their job, the general rule is the M-4 is the most versitile and accurate from a good distance and they use the MP-5 in close-quarters such as hostage extraction.
