Metrics VS Standard. HA!
After a heated debate with DaKilla, I have decided to throw this out to the forum.
DaKilla-German, moronic, Euro, Metric System.
Cheesy-American, intelligent, Dollar, Standard System.
I feel the metric system is the idiot's version of measurement. The base unit is the meter (100 Centimeters). It has decameters, but no one uses it. So basically it has no middle unit to base measurements off of. Unlike the standards system, where we have inches to use as a middle unit. We also have a shorter, more reasonable base unit, the foot (12 inches).
DaKilla believes that using high numbers for a unit of measure is more SIMPLE and PRACTICAL to use rather than using smaller numbers.
Now, the question is. Which system do you believe is the better system of measurement based on the facts stated. Not based on whether you have used a certain system for years or not.
(Feel free to add in any other facts of why DaKilla is a moron for believing that the metric system is "better".)
(I already sense that this has got to be the stupidest thread out there. Oh well...All for good fun anyways...)

Mornic...?whose the moron now...
We go buy the metric system too...its fine...I hate inches and feet, I like centimeters, decameters and meters kilometers etc.
Canadian dollar...meh its fine, can get stuff so much more cheaper over in the U.S. though...

Now, Cheesy, you need to state all the facts correctly first.
Listen to this:
Would you rather have to remember all kinds of different measurements, like 12 inches in a foot, however many feet in a mile. How many quarts are in a pint. Or the other way around, I sure as hell don't know.
Or!
Have the base measurement of every measurement increment by ten.
100 centimeters = 10 decimeters = 1 meter = .1 decameters = .001 kilometers
And the same goes for grams.
100 centigrams = 10 decigrams = 1 gram = .1 dekagrams = .001 kilograms
Does anyone know the measurement of a US furlong? Maybe a rod? Or perhaps the fathom?

Go there and become enlightened.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES. HERE COMES A SCIENCE TEACHERS RESPONSE
Anyway, based on what I have learned in my life from experiences, whichever system you learn first is the best system for you. In terms of which method is easier to learn and requires less brain matter to withhold, I have to go with the metric system. Science, which is the study of everything uses the metric system.
For some reason most kids these days (at least the ones I've had the "pleasure" of educating) have a difficult time grasping the concept of the metric system. All you have to do is move a tiny little decimal either left or right X amount of spaces and change the prefix. It really requires very little thought IF you are used to it.
I use the metric system in class when doing laboratory work because 1) I have to and 2) it is much easier. When doing home improvement work and such I use the good ol' fashioned standard system.
I must make mention of the tremendous boo-boo made by scientists trying to land a probe on mars a few years ago. You may have heard about it. When computing the distance to the surface of mars and the velocity needed to land this probe correctly, some scientists calculated the distance in standard and some in metric. Needless to say, the poor probe couldn't decipher the mix up and it was destroyed in the atmosphere. Pretty funny hah? Here's the link if you want to read up on it

Have a nice day,
Boba

I would love to use the metric system but I think it is to late for me, thanks to our back assward country. Always have to do it different don't we?
If the rest of the world has agreed to a "standard" then why do we call ours "standard"? Don't make any sense to me.
I say metric is better, but I doubt we will ever change to it.
Okay I have to stop typing now, my broken finger hurts.

Definitely...
As far as the arguement...going with DK on this one....I am VERY intelligent when it comes to Math....or any one of those mathematics related subjects.....So the crazy, non-U.S. system would work better in my mind...probably b/c I know where decimal points go.....
