Turning up the volume on your TV helps if you're camping. Especially in places where there are hard surfaces because you'll be able to hear their footsteps. It is even better when you have stereo hooked up to your TV because you'll have an idea of which direction (mostly left/right) they're coming from or that they are close by.
Even in Foxhunt, you can hear the footsteps hitting the grass...

I played a LAN game. So to avoid big noise, we each had headphones (simple walman ear caps).
well I can say that those stupid little ear plugs give you more sound precision on this game (you hear bushes move on enowapi ) than even the best high tech stereo system turned on full.
