I thing the FF/HDD release made perfect sense... Sony can't push the drive by itself when there is no content for it yet. The big push is on Final Fantasy. I havn't seen any advertising for the HDD just for the game. And then because the game requires the drive it's bundled with it.

This is nothing new. N64 and XBOX and other systems have come bundled with peripherials several months before they are available on their own.

If Sony was to release the drive by itself first, they would have to wait a lot longer so there was content for several games available. Then when they sold Final Fantasy you would have to go out an buy the drive on top of it.

I think the price for the game & hard drive is very resonable. $99USD or $140 CDN. Right now a 40GB drive at bestbuy.com is $80USD. Because the drive is pre-formated and setup for final fantasy and includes the game for only an extra $20, I think the value is great. (btw I have no interest in FF abd have never liked RPGs, but I'm going to give it a shot for a month and see what I think).

I'm just guessing but when the drive is release by itself it's worth about $80USD, so I'm not expecting it to be that much of a price drop.

When is E3 btw? If there are going to be any marjor annoucements about new content this will be it.

P.S. Where did anyone one see Sony or Zipper push the hard drive for Socom2 or any other game other then FF? I have only seen Final Fantasy advertising. I've seen a lot in the fourms, but of course that's all just hopes and gossip.

I dont think that the game "sucks"

I dont think that the game "sucks".

Actually, I believe that because of the games long standing success in terms of sales and overall popularity, the PS2 people decided to launch the HDD with this game specifically for a couple of reasons.

1. Marketing the HDD with FFXI would ensure that the most hardrives would get out there in circulation as possible in the shortest amount of time.

2. Because the PC version is out there and people playing on two different platforms can play together is somewhat a first in the console industry as far as I know - meaning that PS2 owners who did by the package would not be left hanging in the wind.

I am not some HDD fanboy but after setting up the HDD I could see a world of opportunity - the only real negative I see is having to pay a monthly fee to enjoy this service (and also pay a fee to register an ID).

To me, if games head in this direction, I will not be able to afford the 10 games a year I buy on average. Mind you, all I really need is SOCOM II now.

Any comments?
