I dont know, I think Socom 2 does have a good selection of sniper rifles, each with their advantages and disadvantages. However if the terrorists can supply themselves with surpressed 552s then they should be able to aquire a silencer for at least the russian sniper rifle (sasr I think its called).

ya the SASR would be a great silenced gun because its just as good as the Sr-25 but thats my opinion of course

Sniper rifles are a tricky concept and have to be used strategically. The biggest advantage is they usually don’t give away your hide. With an un-silenced rifle you’ve given away your hide after two shoots. A typical silencer will reduce the noise, not eliminate it. They are designed to slow down the gasses, and cool them while canceling out sound waves with internal baffling. The only problem is that most rifle rounds travel way above the speed of sound so you always get a sonic crack. Basically a silencer will reduce the sound of a high power rifle to that of about a 9mm handgun (160 decibels to about 120 decibels). At 100 yards it’s almost impossible to tell where the shot came from.

I’ve built special subsonic sniper rifles for government operators designed for urban use, under 150 yards. The rifles are under 100 decibels and sound like some one clapping their hands in another room. It’s impossible to tell a gun was even shot. We use a special round called 300 whisper.

Props to Doom! You know your stuff. Thankyou for clearing all this up with your own experience. I like to see people who know what they are talking about from personal experience.

the SASR is a Semi Automatic Sniper Rifle, it shoots in a way that the noise is produced before the bullet leaves the barrel, like in a shotgun, so you cant have a silencer on that gun,, i dont know why people bother with the weak sniper rifles if you can just get a 1 shot kill with an m80

and if your far enough away with a real 50 cal. it move at like 3 times the speed as sound so you cant hear it untill your on the ground bleedingso there is no point of a silencer.
