Glock my far is the best .45 for the money. If money isn't a option go with a Kimber. If a glock is to expensive, Sig Sauer makes a nice .45 the model is similar in style to the glock as far as the polymer frame.
Remember on the Glock the double stacked mag is really big width wise. If you have a small hand go with the single stack. The single stack has seven rounds, if you can't drop someone with seven rounds you don't need a gun.
One day I am getting a original Colt 1911. They are about $1600
