Silenced Sniper Rifle, or Loud Sniper Rifle?
I would like to know what most of you use...the silenced or the loud sniper rifle. (forget their names, for i dont really use sniper rifles that much)

Well, i was wondering, is it worth using either one, in the sense that one is loud and one isnt? I mean, i know that one gives you a one shot kill almost every time, but its the loudest gun in the game.

Every time someone fires that at me and misses, you can see the muzzle shot easily and can hear where its coming from. The silenced ones, however, take more shots to kill (of not on head) but are nearly invisible to the naked eye...so what do you people use?

i actually prefer the silenced one, because a few times i have picked some people off with headshots, and their buddies couldnt find where it came from.

You already know the good and the bad about the sniper rifles. On the seals, I usually use the SR-25 SD without a thermal. Its a good gun, but not that powerful, but has a rapid fire rate to keep hitting your target. It also can be used like a handgun sort of. Whenever I use it, I never get my hand gun out and just use it.

The higher caliber sniper rifles kil in one hit, but are loud and have a slow fire rate. It all depends on your skill as a sniper and what you prefer. I find it easier to snipe with a SR-25 SD because I can keep hitting a target while its moving, killing it, and not revealing my position.

i was playing one player today, using one of the silenced rifles. Then, i began playing multiplayer, and i would hit somebody in the chest or stomach. What I found out is that almost 80% of the time the person would crouch down on one knee after getting hit or fall over...giving you ample time to keep firing on them.

Most of the time, they run around trying to find the person hitting them, giving plenty of time to kill them. Or they won't even hear the silenced shots. I've shot at guy before(I go for the head) and missed, but they never head it, re-align my shot, and kill them.

I use both, depending on the map.

When I'm attempting to stop an all-out rush, I pull out the m87elr or m82a1a for pure stopping power. When three guys are running out of the bushes, guns blazing, you don't have time to make headshots. They know you're there somewhere, but the idea is that they're all dead before they get into their own effective weapons range.

Process:

One shot, one target down, his buddies go looking, but haven't spotted you yet (it is pretty hard to spot a sniper, depending if they're on-screen or not.)
One more shot, second target down.

His buddy is now very, very, very scared, because he know's he's next. If he's smart, he strafes and gets behind cover and tries to work around to you. You relocate (same effect as SR-25SD; he doesn't know where you are). If he's dumb, he opens up and charges straight at you, presenting a perfect, still target for you to shoot at.

Bang. Third tango down.

Silenced Sniper Rifle:

I use it for dark, foliage-filled maps where it does me some good. Afterall, if they see you, they don't need to hear you or see your muzzle flash.

The SR-25SD is a good weapon for the scout-sniper who gets around behind enemy lines and moves a lot. Its rapid fire allows the sniper to respond to close-in threats very effectively (while on the move), and the silencer makes it difficult to spot the sniper at long range, since there is no muzzle flash, and very little noise (in scope). However, its relatively weak stopping power is unuseable in shoot-or-die situations. The time it takes to kill a target, either lining up a headshot, or firing multiple body shots, pretty much ensures the sniper's death in situations where the enemy is aware of the sniper, or in the best-case scenario, failure to take out the target.

My advice: Use them on your own, and come up with your own table of 'times to use which rifle'. Also, always go prone if possible. Crouch should be the maximum Sniper Rifle firing stance until you get very good at controlling the scope.

List of Sniper Rifles and (my) ratings in various categories:

M87ELR: great stopping power, long range, high accuracy, poor close-in handling, too loud, moderate-long reload time
m82a1a: great stopping power (less than m87), long range, high accuracy, poor close-in handling, too loud, long reload time
m40a1: mediocre stopping power, medium-long range, medium-high accuracy, poor-mediocre close-in handling, moderate volume, moderate reload time
SASR: not tested thoroughly; this is the new sniper introduced in S2, similar in ability to m40a1
SR-25: mediocre stopping power, medium-long range, moderate-high accuracy, very good close in handling, low volume, fast reload time
SR-25SD: low-medium stopping power, medium range, moderate accuracy, very good close in handling, almost silent, fast reload

Headshot always kills, no matter what weapon. Very good chance that the bullet goes right down the middle on any of these weapons. The non-extremely-long-range designed rifles have relatively low-power scopes, and may actually fail to hit their target at the extreme of scope range.

M40 & SASR
The SASR is not even close in ability to the M40. It can shoot a lot faster, and just as fast if not faster than the SR-25. It holds less bullets than the SR but has more take-down power. It may be unsilenced but you can shoot it fast enough that if you miss or don't kill them the first shot then you can have your second shot in the air in less than a second.

I almost exclusively use the larger caliber un-silenced rifles (M87 & M82). While they are loud and have muzzle flash, you can take very long shots and get 1 hit kills from across the map.

The trick is not to miss.

I'm pretty sure the SR-25 has a faster fire rate.

You know what though? I have actually found that it is a whole lot better to just fire a semi-automatic weapon at someone from afar, especially the AK-47. You just constantly unload, maybe just five rounds, and it is so accurate you can usually take him out.

The only way that will work of course is if you find him first using binoculars, and because of the fog, you may not be able to really see him while shooting...

But, the other day i was playing in Fox Hunt, and there was a sniper in front of the turret laying prone. I had just by chance glanced over him with binoculars and saw him like a sitting duck, so i just popped a few shots from at least 150 yards and killed him with my AK.

yeah
I think youre right about the sr-25 having a higher fire rate than the sasr, which is probably the reason it has a higher mag capacity. I definitely use the .50 cal snipers (m82&m87) in day maps and other maps where you dont have a whole lot of time to line up shots. On other maps though, the silenced sr is nice because you can just unload on terrorists from a distance and they have no clue where you are. Foxhunt is sometimes good for this towards the end of a round because if you are towards the middle and ur sniping some terrorist will run up behind you. I know from experience. Sujo is another level where both work well depending on what you are doing.
