Tomb Raider Legend (help)

I have reached level 7, Nepal, and at the start, when I grab the ledge and shimmy across, the ledge breaks off and I fall to my death. I have tried everything possible to get across, but I don't even make it half way before the ledge breaks, and I die.

Can anyone help advise how to get across? Is there any way to move faster when hanging on the ledge?

You have to quickly and constantly press the Y button. It gets her to shimmy across faster. That ledge is the only way to progress through the level. There's nothing else.
