Surprised nobody posted about this yet. This game rocks. The amount of strategy and planning involved is endless. The best way I could describe it is a cross between Chess and Monopoly. Online very fun aswell.

Basically you place your initial 2 settlements in sections of the board where you think you will get alot of dice rolls and decent resources. Each section has a number and resource associated with it. So if it rolls on a 6. and you have a settlement on 6 , you will get the resource associated with it. ( ore , wool , grain , brick , or lumber ) Eventually you'll need to trade with others in game to get the resources you need to build up your city and expand.
You can also build roads and use other variables to block others from expanding.

I love this game too. Every game is different and you can always change up your strategy. I should mention there is also a robber in the game. When ever you roll 7 you get to move it onto any tile to block others of getting a resource and at the same time stealing one of their resource cards which really pisses people off. Since playing the game I've had a lot of people avoid me just because of this. You can also buy development cards. There is the soldier card which allows you to move the robber. There is also the resource card which you can steal all of one of the resources in the game, which also pisses people off. You can also get a victory point card which just gives you a point, but when you get these cards only you can see them so if you have a victory point card the players might not know you are a point away from winning. Because when you are close to winning (getting 10 points or more) everyone will quit trading with you. There are a few other things I didn't mention, but I think you can see how these things make every game very interesting.
