Call of Duty 5
For Activision's stable of franchises, at least, the future looks pretty much as expected. In an industry note parsing out the benefits of the merger, Activision Blizzard unsurprisingly revealed the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises would each receive new installments. Aside from being confirmed as Guitar Hero IV and Call of Duty 5, no other details on the games emerged.

that's great news ride the wave

Call of Duty 4 is a great game but i think that they do eventually need to put an end ot the series. Since CoD4 was modern warfare is CoD5 going to be set in the future? if so that is a big dissapointment to me. I am not one for furtustic games, i hate riding around big "mech" robots.

Let's hope they don't follow in Battlefield's footsteps.

Infinity Ward is not doing COd5. Treyarch is......

Call of Duty 5 back to World War II // Videogame News // GAMER - The UK's Leading Videogames Resource

Those of you who enjoyed the latest Call of Duty’s modern-day approach may be saddened to learn that Treyarch (the dev team responsible for three, and, who will quite possibly end up doing seven) is taking the series back to World War II for the fifth game in the series.

Well, that’s if a job ad on the Treyarch website is anything to go by.

The ad, which is for a level builder, in case you’re interested, doesn’t give away any concrete info as such, but after asking for applicants with “working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres”, does go on to add, “if you’re a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!”.

Which if you ask us is a bit of a giveaway. Why would the ad say that if the person lucky enough to bag the job ends up on designing levels for a modern-day or futuristic shooter anyway?

What do you reckon? Are we reading too much into it? Also, what do you make of the step back to WWII? After the success of COD4, is this what you really want? As ever, let us know in the comments section below.

Oh, and cheers to forum user ‘farquad92’ for the heads up. Your stock is rising number 92…

After the work that wasn't put into COD3, I'll be sure not to pick up COD 5. I don't understand why they would give it to Treyarch again. Maybe they'll start a modern series for IW and Treyarch can keep the WWII series, it hasn't gone anywhere in years anyway.

Another WWII game, that's kind of dissapoiting. There are too many of them on the market now. The only new WWII game coming out that i will be picking up is Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. I think that it is going to be one of the most realistic war games ever. But as far as CoD5 goes, if it is indeed WWII i can assure you that i will not be getting it.

If you haven't read up on Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway i would suggest doing so. It looks like it is going ot be one of the best new games coming out.

Boo to old war games!

They'd be far better off sticking with the modern theme. That way they can just make stuff up. Basing a game off of a historical event sounds like a good idea until it turns into a dead end. How many different ways can you play out WWII? Seriously.

Actually, maybe I'm alone on this, but I wouldn't mind seeing Call of Duty based in Vietnam. I think they could pull it off. But other than that, no more World War 2. That would blow.

Isn't "Nam" a bit of a no no for the American market? (Not being sarcastic)
