Personally speaking, hearing/reading information like that makes me take a step back from anointing such a game as being "game of the year".
Further proof I am but a quasi-jedi in your shadow.
I think skate. should also get a nod. It's definitely a sleeper hit I think, but it's extremely revolutionary in it's own right. I mean, I stopped playing Tony Hawk after #2, but I play this demo at least an hour every night. There's just something about it.

I agree with you... I think that Skate has the potential to be the sleeper hit of the year, especially considering that a majority of people out there (reviewers and the like) consider Tony Hawk to be the "be all, end all" of skateboarding games...

Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience!
All the hype around Assassins Creed is gone, the more vids they showed, people lost interest. I know I have. The game just, IMO, does not look good at all. :\
I liked Bioshock, not the BIGGEST fan of it, but I think it would have a chance at game of the year just because of all the good reviews all over the place. Bioshock also broke a record for most games sold in its first week in the US, but was than broken by Metroid Prime 3 (400,000 in 5 days, US only) :)..............which will soon be broken by Halo 3 >_>
I'd like to know what you think will top this game for "game of the year" status... if it's not Halo 3, then I can't think of another game that could pass up BioShock. Maybe COD4, then? I honestly don't know if there are games on the horizon that could be in contention for such an award.
The Halo series has always been waaaaay overated in my eyes
Hows about Mass Effect , if not perhaps maybe COD4 or Assassins Creed, Half Life - Orange Box, Army of 2. If not pushed off Mercenaries 2 looks like it has that potential IMO
Obviously GTA4 would've probably been GOY if it wasn't pushed back.
I finally beat BioShock yesterday and I thought the ending was very impressive. I'll definetly go through this game again sometime in the future.
That is why I probably didn't like Bioshock as much as others, since it IS System Shock 2. SS2 was great, but, just watch the review. You will realise there is pretty much no difference between the two :p
