According to the newest issue of PSM (issue 97, May 2005),
Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be released sometime after August, yet before December.
So I realize that's kind of a large timeframe to wait for a game, but here's to hoping that it'll be a
big improvement from the first installment.
According to the game developers, the multiplayer options will be vastly improved and diversified. This time around, it will be tons easier to find your friends online and get a game up and running. Players can also expect lots of new game modes - like capture the flag, death match (the producers like to call it "free for all"), as well as some more geared towards the Star Wars universe (like "attack and defend"; which sees players storming enemy bases while the other team defends).
The maximum online player count on PS2 has been raised from 16 to 24, which should equal good times. They also decided to include two player, horizontal split screen action for those players looking for a more intimate multiplayer experience, or for those who are simply online-challenged.
PSM has also confirmed that Jedi will be playable in
Battlefront 2. They won't be their own class, but instead they will be one-off players in the war.
From this same article:
"Jedi are going to have a bit of saber ability, but (their strength) will be based mostly on their force powers, " says
BF2 producer Shara Miller. "The challenge is to keep the Jedi from becoming too powerful; solutions are being thrown around: there is a possibility that only one team can have a Jedi at one time, or that you only get one life as a Jedi - but the Jedi will definitely be appearing."
WHOOHOOO!!! I CAN'T FRIGGIN' WAIT!!!
