Handguns don't have really have ammo in the game... they are infinite.
I think Dark Tidus 316 was talking about the offline mode. Yes, you are correct that pistols do have infinite ammo, but this is only true for the online part of the game. The offline mode doesn't give you an infinite amount of ammo.

I think double ammo is a waste of soace anyway. What are teh top guns used in the game...RA, M14, M4a1, m16 sometimes, and STG...u find one guys using any of those u should be set for at least 2 more firefights.
Not for crazy ones like me. I go out like a soldier and get in firefights with 4or more people. Trust me ammo goes down quick and it's nice to have a full mag when running around just incase someone pops out on ya and you dont have to reload too soon.

They are infinite ammo but you get ammo to if you look at your guns chick R2 your pistol has 5 mag. then shoot one mag. of ammo then look at it again it says you have 4mag. of ammo.
