Remember how we had to DL the patch...well i'm guessing when you add on the HDD and set it up in your settings. It will force you to DL the new maps.

ok so if it forces you to d/l ne maps, then only those people with the hdd will be able to play using those maps. This is going to be a great frustration just like on counterstrike. Any way does anyone know or heard of its potential effect on lag good/bad? anyway i have been all over looking for stuff i am going to look somemore thanks for all the comments, i should be getting mine tomorrow morning california pacific time. I will post as soon as i have it set up. Keep the info coming thanks.

That's why they have a new universe for only HDD people...which is why you Enable the HDD in the options menu.

Tip: On main menu of SOCOM II go into options and enable HDD thats what you have to do I think. It has Disable Enable with check marks you have to enable right?

I get my PS2 HDD tommorrow. My question is, everyone (on a Socom II forum) that has the hard drive dosent know where their $100 worth of "downloadable" content is at. I have heard, and so have they, that you can download new maps, guns, etc. Is this all just a rumor, or are they not doing something right.

Is this thing is worth the $100, or am I just going to be throwing it away

thanks in advance.

i guess I will find out within 48 hours..Ill share the results

2007..have fun waiting..and missing out on SOny's attemp to match the Xbox
Quote:
right now it is late 2005, early 2006.

quotes from an interview with Nobiuchi Okamoto (CTO from Sony, tech consultant of the PS1 and PS2 and is working on the next generation playstation)

Quote:
Q: How long will it be until we see hardware using the Cell chip?

A: Development of the Cell started in spring of 2001 as a 5-year project. Hence the project will end in spring of 2006. Although it is not known whether or not game consoles will be sold immediately, we can expect products using the Cell chip to start emerging around that time.
the 'cell' is just one componet of the PS3, haveing that designed, they still will need to produce the rest of the console..since the cell project started 2001 as a 5-year project. 2007 would be the approx. release.

he also said..
Quote:
“If at this time the software production environment is not ready, I think it will be difficult to announce.”

on a lighter note..the PS3 will include "the cell" which is a $1.3 billion project, being built by manufacturers including Sony, IBM, and Toshiba

it will also havethe Toshiba XDR DRAM..the memory weighs in at 512 Mb and at a data transfer speed of 3.2 GHz, making it the fastest memory device available on the market. This memory was previously licensed to Sony for use in its next-generation broadband applications, which include the Cell

also...

IGN Article:
Quote:
He listed everything from 100 times the physics, the ability to model Pixar quality characters, hydrodynamics, surfaces, mass, high-resolution organics, and more. He indicated that characters in next-gen games will have realistic eyes, hair, skin, and muscles .

He also said that next-generation titles would have "living worlds," which he called "Grand Theft Auto on steroids." He suggested that NPC characters would also be far more advanced, taking inspiration from The Sims. More awareness, memory, complex motives, learning, individualized agents with goals and more.
