So if I were to be strolling along inside a building and heard a fat guy from the other team breathing heavily over the comms but not actually saying anything, I could roll a grenade into the room? Sweet.
But I hate open comms in general. Sometimes SOCOM's old talk function was too cumbersome, like at the start of a round, but I've never played an open comms game that has the amount of chatter that S3 has. People get scared out of talking at all and it sucks.
BF2MC, all of the CoD games, resistance etc. Very little chit chat involved.
I would stray from the flashlight philosophy and go back to the classroom- putting up your hand to speak is close enough to SOCOM. Keeps the stupid kids quiet and there is a bit of order. The way S3 would stop you if you talked too much, thats the teacher keeping order. It works.

That's what I'm thinking. In Socom the mic is being used almost all the time. But in pretty much every other game I've played, it's barly used. The only time I ever used it in CoD was to ask if someone had a UAV when I had airstrikes :)

you know sometimes it's best not to have a mic at all y'know?
i'd have to mute a guy if he keeps callin (Insert Racist Slur Here)-Boy either that or vote em out but now that the idea from OME6A about being a certain distance for push-to-talk or open-mic methods, you might not have to worry about ol' drunken Billy Bob totin his gun 'n running around yellin' at the top of his lungs lol

Dude... periods.
I think the whole open communication could be okay, as long as it had a thing for cutting someone off when they are constantly breathing into the mic. Maybe somehow it could decipher the speech or sounds, and shut it off if it sounds like Rosie O'Donnel is walking up a set of stairs, or if someone is bumping Fiddy too loud.

Who does that? Nearly every 12 year old with a copy of Halo 2. Also, see Halo 3. You wouldn't believe how many of them think they are excellent rappers.
