Well I reversed over Roman in a huge beer delivery truck and killed him, and he has also died in a car explosion on the way home. It just says to pick him up from the hospital.
I also killed another one of my friends in a car accident but I can't remember which one.
It was better in San Andreas, once a girlfriend was killed, they stayed dead.... like you would.
