Hey I've never really played Socom before but I'm really interested in Confrontation that's coming out. What game should I get to prepare me for the new upcoming title?

BTW I don't have a ps2 but do have a 60GB ps3.

What the **** is SCOCM?

Go pick up SOCOM II.

It's the best version made to date in my opinion. If I'm not mistaken, I think you can play old PS2 games on the PS3. I don't actually have a PS3, so I don't really know.

Single player is irrelevant if your wanting to "get ready" for Confrontation (which is online only).

To be honest with you, we don't really know much about the specifics of Confrontation. We know it's online only, and some other minor details, however the game play etc.. is something we are eggerly awaiting.

It kinda is since whenever I play other multiplayer games it's trial by fire and you don't really get to learn the ropes. Sure some say this is the "best way" but you don't send someone straight from signing up in the Military to the front line. They get sent to basic first.

Playing single player as opposed to online would do you absolutely no good, the gameplay of the two are completely different. Get S2, go online and learn that way.

To be quite honest, I would pick up Socom 2. You can get it used for $5 at Gamestop, and more importantly a lot of the gameplay and some maps for Confrontation are being based off of Socom 2.

Playing online is all about knowing the maps, the weapons, and where to expect your enemies at. Playing the single player campaign of Socom 2 will help you get a feel for the mechanics of the game, some of the weapons, and the layout of the maps. All of the multiplayer maps are modified versions of areas you do single player missions in, so that will help you somewhat.

The only downside to Socom 2 is that people have been able to cheat online. So it may be difficult finding a game where no one is cheating.

Comparing Socom 2 to Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a hard thing to do. They're both military shooters, but they're very different. Despite all of the advancements in modern shooters like R6V2 and COD4, Socom (2 especially) still delivers a uniquely satisfying and addicting experience that is very hard to explain.

Get Socom Combined Assault! There is barely any cheating. It is faster paced and just an all around addicting game. Plus, it is the newest one and that is where everybody is at! Good stuff!
