It really depends on how often he purchases a game and if he sells every game he purchases. Gamefly sends out one game at a time for $15.95 per month (more games if you want to pay more, of course). Considering he sells a brand new game -- popular, even -- that he originally purchased for $60 to Gamestop, he will get around $40 (I don't sell my games, I bought them for a reason, so I don't know the exact price). He just lost $20 in a
best-case scenario, and that is more costly than renting one game for an entire month from Gamefly. If he buys one brand new game every two weeks and sells it within days, he is losing about $40 per month -- $24 more than he would if he rented from Gamefly, where you could receive and send back 2-4 games every two weeks (if they receive and ship fast). That $24 which he wasted
really adds up.
Now, if he bought one game per month, he would be losing only around $20 per month. While this is much less than if he bought four games per month, he is better off renting from Gamefly, because then he could rent and play 4-8 games per month instead of just one.
If your friend is buying one game every one or two months (or more) on average, I don't see a big deal if he doesn't play that often. But if he is buying more than one game in a monthly period (and, on average, it seems he does), he is DUMB, in my opinion.
I apologize if I'm wrong about the Gamefly info. I know they charge $15.95 per month, and I'm
assuming that you will receive a game within 2-3 business days after they receive the previous one. There are only three shipping centers, so it could be a little longer.
