Its been mentioned before, I think Creep said something about search engine "spiders" pushing up the numbers rather than real users. Look at the stats, there are hundreds of bots at any given time. I can't understand it myself... If it actually changes I daresay the admins will tell us.

Google, Yahoo, askjeeves and many, many other search engines crawl over the site for information that is being searched for by users. These bots are put out to help bring the information to the user quicker and stuff, and probably amount to atleast a quarter of the traffic if not more.
I'm sure you will be able to find any topic posted here on google if you know how to search right.
