360 cooling?

Ok, so I used to have the Nyko air cooler on my 360 but after hearing my friends story i took it off. I guess his are cooler literally melted onto his 360. I didn't want this to happen to mine so I took it off. Now my I have my 360 set horizontally but propped up a little bit so that air can properly circulate around the entire 360. I also have a small but very powerful fan blowing on my 360. The fan has 2 separate sections kind of so it gets air to the entire 360.

I was wondering what kind of set-ups you guys have, if any. Also do you think my idea is alright? From the coolers that I have seen on the internet and in the mall nothing really looks like it gives the 360 "superior" cooling power.

That will scratch your disc. If your 360 is not perfectly horizontal or vertical, your discs can be scratched pretty easily, especially if the system moves when playing discs.

That is a big no-no also. All those fans are doing is disrupting air flow from the 360 and will cause all sorts of problems. It is pretty much not letting any hot air escape the system, and air won't be able to go where it is supposed to go.

My 360 just sits horizontally in a relatively open area.



If your 360 has internal problems, it will happen whether you like it or not. With your set up, you seem to be speeding up the process.

It's not a fan made for the 360 or anything, it's just a normal house fan blowing on the 360 to keep to extra cool, i don't see how it can speed up the process.

My 360 has been like this since I got it and I have never once had a problem with it scratching any of my disks. It may not be perfectly horizontal, and I'm not breaking out the measuring square to make it perfect.

I don't see how that is possible. I have the 360 slightly elevated so airflow can be achieved from the entire 360, none of the air ports are blocked. Also I have a small fan blowing added cool air onto the system.

Ever since my first RROD about a year ago, I've had no problems with mine. There are times that I play for 12 hrs straight or more, and I've yet to have the system overheat. I have mine sitting vertically in an open area.

Be careful with cooling fans. There are certain ones that they will void your warranty and they will refuse repair for using.

I got my first RROD about a year ago as well and that's why I'm so big on keeping my 360 cool. It's too much time and money for me when it breaks to get it replaced.

I know the thing with cooling fans that's why i took my nyko air cooler off. I substituted it for a normal house fan that blows, what I think, is a good amount of cool air onto the 360, now I also have my 360, like I said, propped up a little so none of the air ports are blocked. I don't see how that could be bad for it?

I'd say it sounds like you have a good setup. The housefan may be a little overkill, but I can understand your concerns.

I think it's Creep that uses a nice, little USB powered fan with his 360. Maybe he'll grace this thread with his wisdom.

I had a USB powered fan for a little bit, Pelican fan stand or some crap, it was garbage. It had one tiny fan that had about as much power as me standing over my 360 constantly blowing.

Also, the 360 is a concave shape. When it is sitting perfectly horizontal air can get under it anyways.

Just leave the 360 as is, normal, in a open area and it will be fine. If it has problems it will eventually die. It is pretty inevitable. If it doesn't have problems, it will be perfectly fine. What you are doing is not going to prevent anything.

zero brings some good advice.

I don't think a housefan will do much unless it's right in the face of the console and blowing air directly into it (which, in turn, does not let air out). It's the components that need cooling, and if air is unable to circulate, those components aren't getting the proper cooling they need.

If the console's death is inevitable, it's best to let it die as soon as it possibly can so that you don't miss the warranty period. It will cost you time, but it shouldn't cost you any money to repair/replace.

Damn... you have a good memory. Yeah, I have a USB powered fan behind my entertainment center, which blows the stale and hot air out into the office where I play my games.

(Fear not, zero... it's not pointed directly at either one of my beloved consoles.)

Here's a picture of my setup... I think you can see the USB fan sitting there behind my 360. If not, trust me... it's there. Although, ever since Microsoft gutted my last 360, it rarely gets as warm as it used to get. So lucky me, I don't have to run that fan as often as I did in the past.

Unless of course, I have both my 360 and PS3 running at the same time... then that is a different story entirely.
