PS1 (and SNES) RPGs
Does anyone at all agree with me that all the best RPGs are on SNES & Playstation? I mean, it seems the newer they get, the more storyline and vibe lacking they are. I guess this could easily be seen with the 'Breath Of Fire' series. Breath Of Fire (I) was an alright game, Breath Of Fire II & III were great games, Breath Of Fire IV was the start of the decline and Breath Of Fire V: Dragon Quarter was a disgrace to the series. If they ever make another BOF game, I think it should have elements from all the games except Dragon Quarter, and be a multi-console game not limited to where you have to most likely buy a certain system just to play one game.
OOPS! I didn't realize what category I put this in.

Reason: I put it in the wrong category

While I agree that there were some pretty fantastic RPGs way back when (Legend of Dragoon being a personal favorite), I do not believe that the best RPGs were from that era. Final Fantasy X, my all time personal favorite, did not hit until the launch of the Playstation2. The Disgaea series, another personal favorite, did not exist until the PS2 generation.
Many would also argue that Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, KOTOR, and other RPGs of that style are the true best RPGs, although I am not of that opinion at all.
In short, there were some truly amazing RPGs way back when, but I feel that as gaming evolves, games are getting better, not worse.

I was pretty young during those consoles but I will admit that there were some damn good RPGs on the playstation and nintendo. Final Fantasy 7 (all-time fave) and chrono trigger were 2 of the best RPGs i've ever played.

I agree for the most part. PS1 had my two fave RPG's, FFVII & FFIX released on it.
It also had Xenogears which was pretty awesome as well. ( God I wish my copy hadn't gone missing....it's such a ***** to find now :( )
Plus there's my guilty pleasure Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (original was not released on the PS1 I know, but, STFU)

I think it is somewhat dependent on the consoles (and the games for those consoles) you grew up with, or even better, discovered while the console was still alive (and by alive, I mean video games were still being developed for it).
I'm not going to entirely agree with you. I believe all consoles have their RPGs that stand out from other games of the same genre.

I would generally agree with you. That was like a golden era of traditional RPGs, and I remember getting excited over new RPGs because talk of a new fighting system and such. RPGs are much more rare these days and the whole gaming environment has evolved and changed, with online play becoming a huge component.
Online MMORPGs have gotten better in my opinion compared to those days, WoW being the best example.

Yea thats true, The SNES was THE era for rpgs. The PS1 had alot of great rpgs too, but that was just the definitive time where alot of franchises started, and were continued in some way on the PS1,gamecube, etc.
MMORPGS wont give me a reason to play until theres a good one, with the rpgness of an mmorpg, and the fluid fighting system of a action game.

For a game-loving connosieur, try:
PS1:
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
Legend of Dragoon (Meh, it's alright)
SNES:
Secret of Mana
Those are the games I've played and experienced, and I trust these to be quite pleasing.

wow you need to get an emulator, some roms, and some spare time quickly. If you havent played any snes rpgs.
earthbound
secret of evermore
seiken densetsu2(secret of mana 2)
tales of phantasia
star ocean
chrono trigger
super mario rpg
fire emblem
brainlord
front mission
breath of Fire
man theres so many i cant even begin to tell you, the SNES rpg era destroys the PS1 era of rpgs (which mostly are continuations of snes rpgs), so all you younger members please do some research and start playing.
