Both companies have horrendous customer service... and this is a person that has had to deal with both of them on more than one occasion.

Well, from the stories I have heard from Sony Customer Support, it has been good. But that might just because it is a somewhat rare occurance. As with the Xbox Live customer support, there are a lot more of those calls, so there is a better chance of more of these horrible stories showing up.
Anyways, I heard many things about Sony's support (some occasional negatives).
-Speak full English
-Replaced out of warranty consoles (when they know it is out of warranty)
-Helpful
-Gets systems replaced fairly quickly
