You are right. Whats going on there is that Haseo is really brand new to the game there. He not experinced at all. All that is the part right before he became the Terror of Death. LOL i thought the same too. I'm all like man Haseo Sucks. Simply this 5th episode ends with him just going down the wrong path. Those five episode don't really go anywhere that much.
The anime is suppsoed to show what happened to shino and everything. And how he gets all strong. But yeah he a loser inthe begining. LOL
