Conan (360)
So last night I wrapped up the HD snoozefest, otherwise known as Ace Combat 6, and decided to check out some game demos.
Among the handful of games I had the patience to download was THQ's Conan.
It's painfully obvious that Conan (not to be confused with the MMORPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures) is heavily inspired by God of War. The gameplay is a blood soaked hack and slash of button presses and combos, allowing one to easily de-limb and decapitate many a foe. None of that is necessarily a bad thing.
I did find the demo to be extremely enjoyable. I enjoyed it so much that I played through it several times.
My only complaint is that the graphics could be better. God of War on the PS2 easily looks better than Conan, but there's only one that you can play on the 360.
It looks as if Conan was just released on the 23rd of October. I wish I would've gotten that instead of Ace Combat. A mistake I'll remedy tonight.
Plus, there's boobs in Conan.

I figured you'd post something about it since I saw you playing it for a good while last night. I actually mixed it up with the new MMORPG that's coming out, that looks pretty interesting. I'm not the MMORPG type though anyway. This game looks decent though.

If you're like me, in that you buy a game, play it until you're content and then trade it in for the next game you want, then it's well worth the purchase.
I'd venture to say I'm about 3/4 through the game, after a 12 hour stint. The game is good fun. As I said before, it's heavily inspired by God of War. It doesn't get old though. You're constantly upgrading your moves to keep up with the increasingly difficult bad guys, all the while keeping an eye open for a topless chicks in chains.
I wish they'd spent as much time on the overall graphics as they did the boobies. Seriously, the best digital boobs yet, though Rumble Roses XX is a close second.
The bosses are insane, which is a good thing. They're incredibly difficult. I spent about an hour trying to beat this one that's like an elephant from hell. It was sick. I'm rambling because I'm tired.
Ooh, best feature of the game: As you're playing, if you die you'll respawn at the last checkpoint with slightly more health. This way if you get in a pickle with your spawn & health situation, you'll luck out sooner or later.
Worst feature of the game: Lack of SAVE game locations. The game literally holds you hostage. Each level goes something like introduction to the area, kick a bunch of azz, then beat the boss. The whole deal takes something like 2-3 hrs per level, which is great. The problem is that there's maybe two places you can save your game at. There may be checkpoints that you clear past that, but if your system freezes, or you gotta call it quits, your game will start at the last save point the next time you play.
This is kinda why I ended up playing amost 13hrs. I kept going until I got to a save point, and then it was near the end of the level, so I figured I'd finish it.
All in all, I give this game a 6.5 out of 10. Mechanics, story, and gameplay are all great. Where this game suffers is the graphics (except for the bewbs), and sound (The game music, which is really good, probably the first I haven't turned off since R6V, has a tendency to just cut out for a few minutes).

Well, I just traded it in.
It was fun. It ran it's course. The frustrations accumulated to the point where it just wasn't fun anymore.
Biggest gripe: 45 second load screen every time you die (which happens a lot with the bosses), and not being able to skip cut-scenes.
Still, a fun game.
Oh, and in case no one got it, the opening picture of this thread is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played Conan in a couple films back in the late 70s. I thought it was pretty funny.

There's a sign of a good game... buying it one day, only to trade it in a week later... good times.
I wouldn't touch this game with a ten foot pole, after reading most of the early reviews on it... they should have considered releasing a game like this back when Conan was a hit movie, and not now when Arnie is 70 years old and has b!tch t!ts.

Hahah, it was actually more like 48 hours later. It's a fun game, but I decided to trade it in early while the trade value was high.
I traded Orange Box, Conan, Halo 3 and Ace Combat 6, and that got me a 1 yr subscription to GameInformer, Call of Duty 4, The COD4 Strategy Guide, and Assassin's Creed.
Mama didn't raise no sucka! Or mamybe she did and I just need a Gamefly subscription?

Never ever bad mouth Conan. He killed James Earl Jones, Wilt Chamberlain and made Olivia Dabo his woman. Sure the only line he pretty much said throughout the series was Crom but for gods sake, it's Olivia Dabo.
Have you forgotten what's best in life?
- To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

Kinda late to this thread, but Conan isn't heavily inspired by God of War..........it is a blatant rip off. >_>
