Socom one graphics are superb in the cut scenes and the main title.
Man, socom 1 and 2 were so awesome. Socom 1 really had the feel of being a Navy SEAL game, even though the voice acting wasn't that great. It always felt like they were trying to sell us on the whole SEAL program throughout the game. Also, they had no storyline beyond the motivation of the terrorists, which made it effing awesome. And of course, you had a great sense of comradeship with your teammates. **** the people who killed boomer off the bat and ordered bravo to hold. They were your squadmates. And BTW, has anyone else noticed that the voice actor for Spectre sounded really slick/smooth/sly in socom 1? Sounded like someone from a movie or something.
Socom II wasn't lackluster either. The single player was fun as hell. The terrorists weren't as evil as in socom 1, so you weren't really motivated to kill them as much. It didn't have the SEAL feeling as much as well. But the gameplay was still great. The missions were hard as hell (but no where near as hard as socom 1), and they were fun. You were always working for a goal, trying to stop the terrorists from killing again. You really got to know your replacement teammates as well.
But then in S3, they changed everything. Plot lines had become too intrusive, and the gameplay wasn't all that great. Instead of acting like a lone seal team and taking out small factions that would be sensless to send an army in after, you now had to help out rebel forces. WTF? When have they decided sending in a four man SEAL team to help a few hundred troops take out an entire army would be a good idea? Wouldn't a situation like that be better suited for the Rangers if special forces were required? Or better yet, infantry? And they made it look like you were fighting an entire army in the last mission there, while in reality all you did was sit back and let them run at you while they die. Then they decide that you're pretty much the only unit qualified to help take out a terrorist group bent on killing all the polish leaders. Why not extract her on the spot, where your heli dropped you off, instead of moving across an entire town, into a larger concentration of troops? It would of been much easier just to extract on the spot, and set up defensive positions. I don't know, socom 3 just wasn't very realistic to me.
Same thing with CA. Many, small missions, huge plot line (Why the hell did they kill off boomer? Why not just bring him and Kahuna back? The series needed them after S3, and instead they closed that path forever. Also, you and FTB took out that entire group. What the hell was their goal anyway, I never got that). All one area, and it all the missions were very open and not that suited for SEALs (for highwire, they would probably send in two seal teams, one to clear the airstrip, one to kill the target and extract the VIP. And who the hell builds an airport inside a mountain range?).
Ok, so I really got off topic and ranted for a while, but I needed to get that off my chest.
