I would assume MLG has there reasons for not including Socom on the pro circuit, but it would still be nice to see socom with some big money. Smash Bros is included...why not socom? Just like Halo, it can be set up team 4v4. Sure socom has its tournaments but it should be on the national stage competition-wise. MLG would get more attention if it included somemore different options. 3 Halo teams signed million dollar contracts over 3 years. The top player on the 2006 tour with 5000points, Karma, received $250,000 for 3 years. All he has to do is compete in all the circuit events. The MLG show can be seen on saturdays @ 10am on USA....or check it out on youtube. They are fun to watch, and is becoming very popular. It is doing for gamers what the world series of poker has done for poker.

Why isn't Socom in MLG? Because Socom stinks. Everyone cares too much about winning. People will stay still for games on end to get a win. Who's going to watch 8 people hide somewhere for hours on end? Even if S1/S2 was on the circuit(faster game style, no camping), it'd still be slow paced..because of the round starting, then you have to run to hotspots, then the round ending, score screen, round starting, rinse and repeat. Even besides the fact, the maps are way too one sided to make it competitive(except for some S1/S2 maps) Halo 2 and SSBM are both fast paced games that people can watch without getting bored of waiting for action. BTW, Karma is not the "top player"..of course that's arguable, but he's not the top player in 4v4, FFA, double team, and 1v1..

They couldn't have possibly put that in they're physics engine purposely, and can't find a way to reverse it, so they won't release a patch. BXR is the same way, why in the bloody hell would they make a "cancellation system" in the game purposely? THey didn't, little kids are just playing this game SO much that they can find anything wrong with it and exploit it. The only thing about BXRing is that you can be killed when doing it, just as easily as if you weren't.
If you want to hop in the most competitive games, MLG game sets are the way to go..everyone gets a BR start, so it starts off even. From there it all depends on who can control the power weapons the best..but I haven't seen one MLG player that's superbounced. BXR? There wouldn't be such a thing if they didn't increase the amount of damage a melee does. They(Bungie) can't fix it because the error itself is on the disc, and you somehow can't patch it. I don't remember people BXRing before melee's did so much damage..that'd be a way to fix it.

Hell, sniping on this game is easier then any other game i've ever played.
Weapon control is also what makes games competitive. Sometimes it makes games a blow-out, other times it makes games fun, close, and keeps you on edge. Being able to work with your team to gain control of the weapons is what makes it fun..whoever has better teamwork AND more skill, will win. Not this whoever has the most teamwork(aka camp the whole time) BS will win.

For me? I enjoy both Halo and Socom.
The set up of Socom is something that makes it Socom. Last man/team standing wins. Although it's rough on beginners, a lot of times it makes them wanting more and more. Sometimes being able to just respawn and respawn gets a little boring..Socom now, it's sometimes fun. When you're on a team(clan) that has good teamwork, and every single one of you is good at the game, it makes it fun. When you go play games by yourself, it may not be as fun, but sometimes it is. Being able to come together with some random team that you join and win games is what makes the game fun, but the chance of that happening on this game is slim to none. That's what it was back in Socom 1 and 2, which made the games very FUN, and made you want more and more. Now everybody wants to be a hero and does their own thing, often leaving you by yourself so things may not be as fun.

Halo...takes skill. You have to aim. You have to have good teamwork to win. You have to be good with a power weapon, such as a sniper, to win.(don't tell me sniping is easy..sure it may be in BTB, where people get SMG starts..but in hardcore games, and BR starts, it's a lot harder to snipe) Being able to have your team protect you when you have sniper or rockets, or anything like that makes the game competitive, it keeps you into it, and keeps it fun. Bad thing about Halo? Too many 13 year old kids that play the game 24/7, think they are the best player ever, and have an ego the size of the sun. People like that who scream at their teammates to tell them they should quit, telling them they lost the game because of you, are the people that ruin the game and do nothing but harm for the game. Sure, searching in MM may not be so much fun, but once in a while you do come across a bunch of guys that play the game for what it is, to have fun, don't worry about winning or losing, and don't care about doing good or bad. Of course, like others, Halo is fun when playing against your friends, or searching with them in MM.

The only bad thing I've noticed on Halo, mainly since the launch of MLG, is every kid thinking they are the next pro. It's bad enough, like everyone here said, the amount of crackled voice kids online screaming as if they were in a championship match. Even kids with low level ratings think they are the MJ of Halo. Socom has its fair share of taunts and smack talking, which is a part of the game to an extent, but the little kiddies need to lower their sugar intake and calm down and accept that you are not going to be a professional gamer, and if you don't believe that, look at the WSOP. Thousands of people think they are the next best poker player in the world cause they win their home games against their friends. Halo online is becoming a joke with all the aspiring "pros", and the people who play the game for fun don't want to listen to you on the mic pretending to be Walshy.

Isnt every game/sport about winning? When a Safety plays deep to prevent getting burned on a long bomb, is he camping?Do navy seals run around like Rambo shooting a M63 and making all kinds of noise and throw grenades in all directions blindly?I think not.Halo is a good game and is more arcade like.Socom(though lately its been changing)is supposed to be a semi-accurate depiction of modern warfare, its a game so there will always be things included that make it more fun/accessible ect.I think its total BS that Socom doesnt have a pro league and I'm writing my state congressman.

Agreed. I don't think wanting to win just applies on Socom. Everyone playing Halo is trying to do the same thing. Socom would work on the pro circuit. MLG Halo comptetions feature capture the flag, slayer, and oddball. Socom could offer breach, demolition, and suppression matches, for example, as their series. If socom was on the pro-level, the pros and best socom players would certainly not be camping, or just running and gunning around the maps when the prize is $100,000. Socom is a simulation of REAL military strategic tactics, and it would be fun to watch some of the best players in the game. If it were added, S3 or SCA should not be the games used. Going back to S1, possibly even S2 would be ideal. As for Halo, sure it gives everyone an equal footing starting off with BR's and allowing weapon control on the maps, however like the previous post said, Halo is more arcade style. There are people in the world who would enjoy watching a more military-minded tactical game without fictional "power" weapons. The pros would not worrying about who has a weapon advantage in socom because a real pro would excel with any weapon, even a Mark 23 pistol. Either way, both are fun games. I like playing Halo when I'm in the mood for a capture the flag game, for example, and I love playing socom when I'm in the mood for what socom offers. MLG would grab a lot more awareness by expanding their games outside of Halo, GoW, and Smash Bros. On that note, what is going to happen to these current pro's a few years down the line. Halo 2 cannot stay the main game forever, especially at the rate technolgy and game play increases and newer, improved games turn out. Although, with the contracts these teams have signed it looks like Halo 2 will be the game for the next 3 years on the circuit. Thats the one huge difference in this sport compared to baseball. Baseball has not changed fundamental-wise. Gaming will always be undergoing changes and enhancements.

i use to be big on halo. then my friend introduced me to socom and i learned that this game took alot more skill and thinking. But i can almost guarentee you that if a socom player who has never played halo would do ten times better then the average new halo player.

Socom does have a professional circuit; it's called the War in Iraq.

Halo is good because lets face it has more action and gameplay that you can trust is actually working, but is bad because it's about 20x more overrun by stupid kids and punka$$e$. MLG style gets way too repetitive, and gameplay is a little too simple.

Socom is good because it is more interactive, strategic, and realistic. The people on Socom are much more laid back. It's bad because well simply put the online has a lot of flaws to it.

Both are great, but I'm a socom kind of guy. I just like the elements to it.

Focus = winner in this thread.

Halo 2 is amazingly fun, and fast paced. 85% of the time the game is non stop action. There are situations where people camp, but it's not possible to do so for much time, and even when you camp there's still plenty of action. It's the complete opposite in Socom 3/CA.

As far as MLG, MLG recently bought out gamebattles.com, which you should all have at least heard of. It started off as Socombattles.com and has been, until about a month ago, a site dominated by Socom ladders. With a move like that, one would think MLG may be moving in on a Socom addition.

My personal opinion? I like them both. Halo is more fun for me if I don't have friends to play with. If I do have friends to play with, I'd rather play Socom. Probably just because I've been playing Socom with them for so long, it just goes together the right way. I like both games, and both can be fun. I'd probably pick Socom if I had to, simply because I've been playing it for so long, it's the reason I started gaming online.
