My game freezes when I join a big map after the game has already started (everyone's playing), but after I deleted all my S3 info on my memory card, things seem to be doing alright.

Wow this is incredibly frustrating. It happens 100% of the time anytime I leave a room the game just freezes and the music loops back and forth.
It pisses me off that game companies rush their games to meet release dates and don't give a **** about the bugs that are in the games when they're sold.
Never had an Issue online yet, some of the servers and a bit laggy that about that only thing that i've had issues with. Never had the game freeze online or been booted off yet. I dont know what to tell you, Re-do you online settings or turn your computer off before you play Socom online that may help...
Here's an interesting tid bit of information. I finally called SCEA from the number provided in the manual and the technician told me they've been having "a lot of problems with the new Socom". They had no idea why my game has been freezing and now I have to ship it clear across the country to have them look at it - and I have to pay for shipping and handling.
Oh, and one last thing. The technician also told me never to clean a PS2 with a DVD cleaner as it will void the warranty. The recommended style of cleaning is using the detachable hose from a vaccuum.
When I called Sony they told me the freezing was probably the game. So, I returned SCA at EB Games and had them give me another one. Guess what? Still both of the same problems.
Mine likes to freeze up when a game is over and its moving to the next map. Mine also just freezes up at random moments someone will key the mic or if i'm dead waiting for the round to end i'll notice the clock isn't moving anymore. I've talked to my clanmates and they have the same issues. It has really turned me off Socom, i mean i have to put up with team killers, horrible hit detection, lag and now freezing. Now when i'm playing and it freezes up i just shut it off for the night. SCA was the biggest waste of $40 i ever spent, at least S3 was decent for about 6 months.
I am having the same problem! I sign online and right when it gets to the main interface it say " Socom Combined Assault has encountered a server error (9)." So then I log back on, and I go to join a game and everything is fine. Then when I leave it, my game freezes. Dont know what to do?
