Very disappointed in Forza 3's damage model.
They were hyping it up because it was a pretty big feature that Forza 3 has over GT5. It was believed that Forza 3 would have a pretty detailed damage system, but now that the demo is out, it is apparent that it is very limited, rather unrealistic, and sometimes buggy.
YouTube - Forza Motorsport 3 - No "EPIC" Car Damage
A high collision crash results in a slightly dented front end, and the paint pretty much pops off the entirety of the car, even if it is no where near the impact zone. The damage isn't being simulated...Right when the cars collide the car model is just instantly swapped, regardless of the crash. There seems to also be no deformation of the car frame no matter how hard the crash is.
Also, it seems as if you bump into the right or left side of the rear of a car, both tail lights shatter.
Then there is this:

I think the video speaks for itself.
Seems as if both Forza 3 and GT5 have limited damage models. PD have been showing off what they have so far for damage in GT5, although they have been stating that it is still a work in progress. I doubt it would get MUCH better than it is now, but the way they have it is this. Every car in the game will get surface scratches, minimal dents. Race cars (rally, nascar) will have more extensive damage models such as heavy dents, scratches, doors/hoods/bumpers being ripped off, etc.
The main argument against GT is that it is bumper cars, but the exact same can be said about Forza 3. There is never going to be an extensive damage system in SIMULATORS. Forza and GT is about racing, not crashing.
I just think that this has been one massive
PR disaster for the guys at Turn 10 now that we actually get play the game. Che, the community manager at Turn 10 is just being ridiculed at Neogaf for his past comments, but I think Che is simply trying to save face for the ridiculous comments/promises that Dan Greenwalt has made regarding Forza 3, most of which is just flat out not true.
