I heard about this new content on this afternoon's episode of X-Play... still not sure how I feel about this, because to me, it seems like yet another cash-in by the people over at Epic. Seriously... the price of the content is the same whether you have all of the earlier maps released for Gears 2 or not. Ouch.
Here's the details which were posted on G4TV's website earlier today:
Epic has been pretty good with post-release support thus far, but they are about to kick things into overdrive. On July 28th, we'll be getting the "All Fronts Collection" for Gears of War 2. The collection will include every multiplayer map released thus far (Flashback, Combustible, and Snowblind) along with seven new maps in the "Dark Corners" pack.
"Dark Corners" will also sport a "deleted scene from the game's campaign that takes you deep into the bowels of the Locust hollow." This segment, called "Road to Ruin" will also introduce a new stealth element, giving the player the option to get their Solid Snake on with Marcus Fenix. Or, you can just go in guns blazing.
The "All Fronts Collection" is the retail pack that will run you $19.99. If you already own all the map packs, you can download the "Dark Corners" pack on the same day, which includes the seven multiplayer maps and singleplayer scene, for 1,600 MS Points ($20).
The retail package will sport a few bonuses if you were worried about the equal pricing for the box including everything and the download of just the new content. Retail buyers will grab a video commentary from Cliff Bleszinski, a custom Xbox 360 dashboard theme, a fold-out poster, and a strategy guide.
For those just interested in the maps and content, if you haven't been getting the map packs, this is an amazing deal. If you even missed getting a single map pack, this saves you money. The only people out of luck are the most faithful Epic fans that have purchased both the Combustible and Snowblind map packs as they will have already dropped $20 on DLC.
I totally agree... and I have yet to even purchase any of the Gears 2 maps that were released after the game was originally launched.
Just hearing this news has me seriously thinking about trading in my copy of Gears 2, just because their greediness makes me sick to my stomach.
It makes me angry that I'm addicted to the game because I know they are just extorting people but my XBox is broke for now so I haven't been able to play.
Well, my copy of Gears 2 should almost consider itself lucky... I just got back from Gamestop to trade in some stuff toward a copy of inFAMOUS and Batman: Arkham Asylum, but for some odd reason I stopped myself from taking that game in with me.
It would have probably been an easier decision for me to make, if I wasn't such a huge fan of the Gears series, overall. Eh... you win some, you lose some.
This seems pretty awesome. Especially to me because i don't have any of the other map packs. Definitely getting retail version because of all the extra stuff.
ps. EPIC is not being greedy. Combustible map pack, Snowblind Map pack, Flashback map pack, Seven new maps, ( bringing the total to 18 new maps) and a new campaign chapter that can be played two different ways. If you get the retail version you also get a video interview, a Xbox theme, a poster, and a strategy guide for only 20 bucks. If anything they are being generous. besides, if you don't want it, don't buy it.

i agree. Shit like this is often repackaged and thrown out there, but mainly just more motivation for the people who havent gotten any of the map packs. I understand alot of people feel like they got gyped but really, this is a good way of getting people like myself who havent bothered with the DLC to get up to date, and on the cheaps too.

this went through perfectly! didn't think it would happen.
The fact that you have new DLC available every other month that all cost 800mp, if you've stuck with the game from the beginning then that comes out being a lot of money.

You probably should of waited for this huh.

I was kinda pissed to find out the other day that Gears 2 is only fetching a mere $17+ in store credit, no matter which edition of the game it happens to be (I own a limited edition copy)... damn, makes me wish I would have traded the P.O.S. in sooner.
Most popular video games that have a lot of DLC usually have something like this, for example ODST.
You wouldn't expect to buy a bunch of stuff to then have it all later released as a bundle with more new stuff and still pay the same amount as someone who has only bought the bundle pack.

Dude... just... I mean... are you saying... nevermind... I almost went for the infraction point.
They are repackaging the same game... and making us (the customer) repay for all of it regardless if you've been a loyal customer or not. If this is the majority of their customer base... then I understand why they are "extorting."
I make plenty of money, and if I wanted to I could easily blow away the $20 just to get it and not feel the pinch in my wallet...but for me to pay to replay the same f'in story line with a lame ass new feature that won't add anything to the game whatsoever???
This game is about guns blazing, not hiding... I can't wait to hear about the bugs that come packaged with this so called hiding feature that most people won't even use because eventually your going to have to blaze your guns anyway.
It's called the brown bag special... and guess what its filled with.

LOL! I'm in the same boat... with the exception that my xbox works

So, the people who have spent their money and played, and tolerated the map packs while EPIC tried to debug this broken stuff... which you should take mind of... there are glitches galore in the new stuff as well... So most people stick to the originals... get to spend the same amount of money to get 1 more piece of the pack as the guy who got none of it?
They are giving you shit away for free that we payed for...and I still have to pay for it even though I have it... yeah, lucky you... but that's a total b-slap in the face to me and all the people who've been loyal to EPIC... we are the group that will be buying GoW3 pre-release (some still will) and the newer stuff... but now I know I won't have to do all this next time... because they don't know how to take care of current customers... all they want to do is try and bring in new ones... there's only so much market share they can attack... its retaining em that keeps the money coming.
This is what EPIC is encouraging at this point:
1) Don't buy pre-release, wait awhile and we'll give you all this for a super discounted rate.
2) Listen to the first movers scream as they release yet another buggy game full of cheating... which we all know they will take their sweet dookie time maybe making an attempt to patch. Because they will be too busy cranking out new content on a buggy foundation.
3) Wait until the price of the used copy falls to about 20-30 bucks... then wait again until they decide to do something like this. Only to find out the original release is about the only thing they spent time developing. Therefore the map packs were a waste of my time, as they are now.
Does this sound like a solid plan to make money on EPICs part? Almost sounds like Sony and the PS3. Which still sucks.
I only tell you all this cause I'd like to point out to you who you are about to hand your money to...cause this is how they are going to treat you.

Quotes don't come with any more full of fail than this.
Seriously...I'd have figured someone at EPIC would have censored that part... considering how hardcore they sensor their own forums... but
Since when did "the most faithful Epic fans" turn into a minority? Or into a group of customers to blatantly oversee? Aren't these the guys that are gonna pre-order all the "Souped Up" editions?
I laugh harder everytime I reed that line... thanks for the great post full of win Neg-C.
I think I may have finally overcome my hate for EPIC... now I just pity the fools for their arrogance which apparently now blinds them. Their grave seems to be getting dug deeper everyday.
