The Demo is on the marketplace now and its pretty extensive. You can start the campaign or do skirmishes.. There's even a tutorial guide.
Before playing the Demo I didnt even care about this game and thought it would be another one of those stupid versions of C&C Red Alert.. A game thats too extensive for a 360 controller and should only be played on a PC. Halo Wars is nowhere near as complicating.
And the Demo has reversed my interest.
Like for selecting soldiers in a small area and ordering them to attack, you just hold down the A button and it opens up a small circle radius to select those specific ones. Or you can just hit LB to select ALL at once and order to attack. All your buildings are in one big general area..not scattered all over the place. And theres not an overwhelming amount of upgrades & buildings to worry about either.
The controls are more basic then Red Alert. You can even play co-operative team games online. (not in the demo but in the game) 2 vs. 2 , 3 vs, 3 .
I think this game will be pretty popular when its released.
Im assuming the ones that havent tried it yet, think its another one of those gay Strategy / Simulation games.. But this one is actually pretty good. Not too complicating / technical for the casual user. And more fun overall then others like C&C , Age of Empires , etc..
I played the demo today and must say I'm pretty impressed. I can't wait to get my full version. The graphics look great for a RTS and I thought it was pretty cool that vehicles can jump down to different levels. Playing the campaign co-op sounds like a lot of fun too. I just wish they would have included a Covenant campaign. They could have added some more game modes too, only two included. The game is kind of lacking in depth but they are just trying to appeal to more people. I think this game will get more people into the RTS mix.
I love the demo. It brings the feel of Age of Empires, a game which I used to be addicted to. I'll probably be picking this up on its release date. It's a nice change in game style that I've been striving for lately.

I felt that as well..without even knowing beforehand that they developed the game. Or atleast some of them did. (from the original AOE series)

I think about 65% of the original team worked on it, it shows too. They really know how to make a great RTS. Its too bad they are shutting down. Hopefully the new studios they open up will do something great.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not very impressed... Maybe it's because the demo doesn't have much to offer, but the game is soooo simplistic. I guess I'm used to Starcraft and other RTS's with plenty of space, and different units, buildings, etc. It's just so easy in this game to build an army out of nothing, and there is not enough to choose from.
If you played other RTS games, you know that there was a lot of strategy involved (Hence, Real-Time Strategy). This game just seems like you try to get as many units as possible and have a war and see what happens. It should be much more than that. For example, I'll use starcraft again. If an enemy gets lurkers, you need to get a unit that can see where they're hidden. Or, if they get some kind of air unit, you need a good defense from air.
I don't know, I might be overanalyzing it, but I might not pick this game up.

In order to have that , you'd have to have a PC and mouse. It would be too "all over the place" for the 360.
I think the game is perfect..considering its a console version.
I barely even played the Campaign..was mostly just messing with Skirmishes. And thought it was great.

I was going to say something similar.
To pull a game like this off on a console is very complicated. In normal games like this, there are so many controls that it's almost impossible to pull it off on an xbox, playstation, etc. So in order for this to have any shot at working, they had to make the controls really basic so it could be formatted onto a console.

Eh, I guess I'll stick to PC RTS's then. This game just feels like it doesn't take much skill, just speed. I do remember playing a demo for an older RTS (long time ago) on the 360, and it was much better. It had like over double the units and buildings and upgrades that Halo Wars has. But whatever, I'm sure this will be a hit with all the Halo junkies, but RTS players will be disappointed.
The first thing I noticed was the simplicity. I can deal with the lack of units, but the lack of space to build buildings bothered me. Having play SC/BW a lot myself, I feel like the game is very limited. After playing a bit though, I didn't mind it so much. I did the campaign and a skirmish and I actually enjoyed it.
Might be a rental til I can decide if I really like it
I think its a good game. I mean I d/l'ed the demo and I thought it was goin to be boring because I've never played a RTS but from the looks of it, I thought it was goin to be cheesy but it wasn't. The gameplay was fun and the graphics during the video scenes were incredible.
