Anybody else completely disgusted with the matchmaking in 2?
I LOVED Gears 1, where you search for rooms, and theres rooms you can join depending on what you want. Gears 2, we get matchmaking. I HATE MATCHMAKING. COD4, I hated it. Halo, I hate it. MATCHMAKING IS THE WORST THING EVER INVENTED! (although, in COD4 you stayed in the room you were put in)
So now, since not every single person on my friends list plays Gears 2, and I rarely get in a party, its hard as hell to join an online game, not to mention it takes 20 minutes. Before I'd just put in my criteria, bam, 50 games I could join. My choice.
Then, even if I get in a game and play, it boots me back to the matchmaking? WHAT!? Can I not stay in the same room and keep playing?
I'm about ready to take it back, since online is horrible. I loved Gears 1, but 2's online disgusts me.

I kinda agree with you. Im disgusted that I cant play Raven Down over and over again with the Shotgun. Let alone, they didnt even allow that map (best map in GOW1) in the game.
Matchmaking was a bit hard to get use to at first but now it seems like it is getting faster plus epic said they are looking into why it takes so long so at least they are trying to fix it. The reason I like matchmaking is because a) me and my clan can be on the same team with out trying to talk over the singing 12 year olds to ask the host let us switch teams at the end of the match and b) in gears 1 I would get into rooms with people screaming and I would tell them to be quite and then host kicks me. As long as they speed it up I prefer this way but I think it would be cool if they had rooms and matchmaking. As for Raven Down that was a great map but Day One is almost the same exact map just a bit bigger so I guess that kind of makes up for it. I want them to bring in Fuel Depot and War Machine, those were great maps.

Day One is a much bigger map. And they added all those sniper crap guns to it. So it ruined everything.
I read somewhere that the developers were upset and couldn't tolerate people using the Shotgun so much up close on maps like Raven Down...so they made GOW2 to make it more of a pro-camping game.
They need to look at what the people want...not what the developers cant tolerate. Raven Down was the main reason people continued to play the game for a year after its initial success. The only rooms I would see open over the last year were : 1 - 19 Rounds , Raven Down.
And all I hear on the mics lately is how Epic killed the GOW franchise with this game.
The Boomshot & Grenade Planting are two things that should be removed. There is no warning at all if your being shot from behind with the Boomshot. Its ridiculously stupid how powerful that gun is.
And with the planted grenades they knock you down every where you go. Even when your very careful and looking out for them..they still get you.. EVEN the smoke grenades knock you down. Nothing more fun then being knocked down by a smoke grenade and shotgun blasted while your down.

Grenade planting is awesome. I loved using claymores in SOCOM II and think that this (just like with the spike grenades in Halo 3) is an awesome way to outsmart my opponents. Cheap? Definitely...but it works and I get a kick out of it.

Eh, the grenade planting is cool. Smoke Grenades shouldn't be smoke AND knockdowns.
I've heard a lot of complaints that the shotgun is nearly useless, and I can agree on my part. I unload about 5 shots on a guy and he doesn't get downed. Except that same guy will explode me with one shot, so whatever. Obviously I just suck at the game.
Gears 1 was solo friendly. I hardly party up with 4 other people. I can't even find 4 people to play the game WITH. The loading times I can handle too. But loading for 20 minutes, then playing for 5? Then going back and having to load for another 20 minutes to play for 10? I can't even justify that. What ever happened to joining a room at 9:00 pm and still being in that same room at 2:00am? It's impossible in Gears, since as soon as the game is over, everybody is kicked. Am I missing something? Can you do a private match or something, and keep a room going all night?
Skillmatching is pathetic too. "Looking for people of equal skill". No thanks, I'd rather that be gone so I join a room 10 minutes earlier. Not to mention what does it judge skill on?
I'm gonna be stuck with it, since Gamestop is the most disgusting company on earth. You can't return a game when you buy it, and as soon as you buy it, it loses 20$ off it's value. Can't justify selling it back to them for however much they're buying for.
I reviewed Gears 2 on my website and I think I gave it a 9.5 and a majority of the score came from the amazing Campaign that it has. The online I am still not a big fan of and I think they can make me a happy camper by changing one thing.
Let me pick what game type I want to play. I like Guardian and Warzone. Mostly Warzone and not being to choose that really pisses me off to the point that I dont even want to play it, and I am a huge Gears fan so much that I have the logo tattooed on my Right Arm.
I agree. A gears tattoo is HARDCORE! Also I don't have a problem getting online. I haven't really noticed the ranking system but they should make it a little more gamer friendly. I think the developers try to compare their franchise to the next big thing BEFORE their game actually hits the shelves. In this case, Halo 3. Halo has a ranking system, so GOW2 felt like they had 2 have a ranking system! They don't! GOW1 was great without it. Because sometimes the ranking system means nothing with regard to skill.

I think gears of wars ranking system is alittle more accurate, just because of the fact that it doesn't take much for your rank to drop (i don't know if this has changed or not i could be wrong) so even getting past the first few ranks only takes one or two good *** whippings to drop you, whereas in halo, its pretty hard to not be over rank 10 or so. Now maybe this is because gears is a harder game, or because the games are longer and are weighted more but thats how it looks to me at least. Or maybe im above average in halo, and pretty weak in gears.

It really isn't truthfully. It has flaws but it's not THAT bad. I find that most people who hate this game are also the same ones, for the most part) who can't get a hang of the game and keep getting killed constantly. I'm not saying that that's you but it's pretty much a constant with most people.
Too many people want instant gratification these days so taking time to learn a game is pointless for these people.
I was horrible at the game when I first got it but I gave it a couple of days and watched other players and learned that way, now I'm good and I don't have a problem with other people most of the time.
