Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead™ casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants.
The Survivor Co-op Game Mode is played out across four sprawling campaigns, set in urban and rural environments. The team of four Survivors may be comprised of one to four human players, allowing for single player and multiplayer co-op games.
The next-generation A.I. technology of all non-player Survivor and zombie characters is a pool of systems used to procedurally generate a unique experience by monitoring the players' experiences and tailoring the pacing and difficulty of action for each game. This makes for a different experience each time the game is played.
In the Left 4 Dead Vs. Mode, play as a Survivor or as one of four types of "Boss Infected." Each of the "Boss Infected" possesses an exceptional mutant ability -- such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas -- instead of traditional firearms.
Co-op redefined: This new action title from Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, promises to redefine the co-operative genre as those titles did for multiplayer and single player action games.
A.I. technology: The advanced artificial intelligence drives both friendly and unfriendly creatures to dynamically create intense single-player, co-op, and multiplayer experiences every time the game is played.
Expansive environments: Battle across twenty different maps with ten distinct weapons across four sprawling campaigns.
Online matchmaking: The matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play.
Designer's Commentary mode: Activate this mode for a unique "behind the scenes" look at the development of the game.
I've been watching this one. It looks very interesting. I like the idea of there being a "Director" A.I. The game will evaluate how much ammo, health and etc you have. How long its been since you were attacked and your surroundings and then plan an attack according to your situation. So hopefully it'll be tense as hell. Only thing is you HAVE to work as a team to survive, and we all know through experience how some people struggle to do that online....

That's why you need to get a buddy or two that you know like the back of your own hand. I've never had a problem working as team with them. Unless we are talking about Omega, and if that the case you can pretty much figure that he's going to single handily kill everything in the game by himself.
I usually boycott funding elctronic arts, but ive been waiting for this game since i conquerd dead rising. Finding two compotent players is gonna be a pain in the *** though. Memories of resident evil online come to mind.

The problem with EA is that they get your hopes way up there and then crush them. It's hard to boycott something when they promise you the world to only get a turd.
Yet again, I've got my hopes high on this one as well. I need another co-op game to play with the friends.

Actually, I think his EA "boycott" stems from the fact that over the years, they have been notorious at buying out smaller game development companies, only to dissolve the small company by making them part of their own company.
At least, that is my problem with Electronic Arts...

your absolutly right, i started when they bought maxis, and turned it into "the sims inc" and now they are trying to hostily takeover take two. If that happens i swear to god, that will be the end of all gaming as we know it, becuse it will be no stopping them after that. Someone needs to step in and regulate EA, gaming industry in general.
But mike is also right as that even thier internally made games somtimes give you high hopes and then end up being really bad games, but they have so much money, its insane how much time and energye theydont put into so many of thier games. But a cool game is a cool game and ill definitly be giving left 4 dead a try.

What bothers me the most is that they don't seem to test their games before putting them on the market. It's almost like they hire a bunch of baboons to poke at the buttons for hours and then calling it done.

You think that's bad? Try playing a 2K Sports game, and then tell me how bad you think the (relatively identical) game turned out through EA.

I guess that is the way with the game industry now. Why test it while we can get someone to pay us to test and then release a patch. I understand cutting corners but damn have pride in your work.
the problem with the is that EA just Looooves small dev teams, and huge deadlines, which is why half of its games always get rushed out and not properly tested. You would figure with all that money they would stop trying to buy out everyone and just focus on making some kickass games, but no, they go the Sony route and figure they will buy it either way on brand and franchise recognition alone. Seriously, that billion and a half they are trying to seize take two from could be used for actually paying thier employees.

Oh, so this is why you always shoot me in the back?
I can't wait for this game. I think I posted a thread about it a looooooooong time ago. I love the zombie/survival genre. Co-op's going to be great.
