Gears of war 2—New stuff
Create your own Character mode.
Step 1: Customizing you character.
--Realistic Facial features which you can edit to your personal preference.
--Chose from over 20 different cultural backgrounds and dozens of different skin tones and colors.
-- Option of creating a male or female a human, or a locust.
--Decide muscle thickness, height, hair color, eye color, armor type, shoes, and gloves.
--Customize your characters strengths and weaknesses. Deicide your characters favorite weapon and least favorite weapon. Chose the weapon you want your character to become most skilled with, and the weapons that you really aren’t going to use that often. Weapons that are selected as favorites will magically appear more than usual in single player mode.
--Chose your characters first and last name, team name, team color and team symbol. Chose his/her personality, and earn upgrades in rank by playing online.
Step 2: Uploading your character
--Your character has a unique story. Go to www. Gearsofwar.com to create your characters personal story, or have Epic Games generate a random story for you. Stories will give other players background information on who they are playing with.
--Post your story online, and share it with millions of other people, have friends add their characters into your story online and even edit it as you play.
--Upload your character onto
Gears of War - default. Create a profile for your character and see how many people have viewed it. A counter keeps track of how many kills you make on multi-player and single player mode. You can show people how many times you have died if you want to, the decision it left up to you.
Clan Mode:
--You have created a character, made a team, and even chosen out a team color and symbol. The only problem is where are your teammates? Invite your friends to join your team and climb the ladder to the top on X-box live. Got no friends? Don’t worry. Epic Games has computer generated teammates, and the AI is so advanced that no one will be able to tell the difference between person and a PC teammate.
--Clans must have at least 1 human player. They must have at least 4 characters total whether they are human or PC.
--Clans can challenge other clans at any time, and it is up to the clan that is challenged to accept or decline the challenge. Wins and loses are kept track of online as well.
New Video Capture Mode
--All too often you make a crazy headshot, and you tell your friends about it and they don’t believe you. Now you can prove your worth. Each game played on x-box live is recorded. Automatically. After the game you can go into options and click on REPLAY. And there you have it. All the games you have played on x-box live in the last month. After 30 days replays are automatically deleted unless you click on the SAVE PERMANANTLY button. Then as the name implies the replay is saved forever. Well unless you go and delete it off the hard drive, but if you click SAVE PERMANATLY we assume it’s for a reason.
New Anti-Hack/Glitch mod
--Glitching is fun sometimes. Everyone knows it even if they don’t want to admit it. But when you are trying to have a serious game and someone glitches like a noob ands kills everyone it ruins the game. With the new anti-glitch mod no one will be able to glitch out of the map, roadie-run, skydive, kung-fu-jump, superman, weapon slide, see though walls, or do any of those other glitches, IN A RANKED MATCH, OR IN A CLAN CHALLENGE. We assure you. In player matches however there will still be glitches, which were intentionally placed there for the benefit of sore losers, and to humor our admins who, believe me, are always watching.
The REMOVAL of Host Lag
Yes we did it. We removed host lag. The host is no longer a God. He is an equal. Now go and kick his ***. The host can still kick players in player matches, but only if the majority of the people in the match would like for that person to be kicked. So for example: you are taking a lot of crap, and the host wants to boot you. He has to initiate a vote. If more than half of the people playing want you to go then the host can kick you. But if no one votes yes to kick you than you stay. Sorry host. We just realized you were just too powerful in the first one. We had to knock you down a notch.
NO. WE DID NOT REMOVE THE AUTOMATIC DOWN WITH THE ACTIVE SNIPER. You have to be fair to the poor snipers. Its hard enough getting headshots, and without the active the sniper basically does nothing. So we compromised. We made it a hell-of-a-lot harder to get active reloads with the sniper. But if you get shot with one, you are still down.
CHAINSAW BATTLE MODE
Yes. It is real. We realized that it was kind of lame when two people are revving their chainsaws at the same time the CPU kind of picks who wins. We decided to add a little duel mode in to fix that. Tap A as fast as you can when you get into a duel type situation. Who ever is clicking it faster will win and kill the enemy. Each character has their own special after the chainsaw battle ends. Oh yea. We forgot to tell you. You get to choose your own special as well.
The Ability to Switch to FPS.
Okay, were not biggest Halo fans around here, but we do want some of the halo addicts to come over and try something new. That’s why we added the ability to switch to FPS (First person Shooter) at anytime during any match. We worked on the FPS mode a lot and it’s just as fun and realistic as when you are playing in the TPS mode. (Third person shooter). You still can take cover and blind fire and all that good stuff, but you will only see the gun, like in Halo. (Eww!!!)
New game modes

--Capture the Flag
--King of the hill
--Free for all (called Bloodbath)
--Assignment. In Assignment you must have at least 2 teams of 6. But you can have up to 4 teams of 6. Each player is assigned a certain job when each match starts. One player will be a sniper. Four will be support, and one will be the Captain. The captain’s job is to collect the “object” in the middle of the map and bring it back to the sniper. The first team to bring the object back to the sniper will win the round. There is no respawn. Once you are dead you are dead for the rest of the round. The sniper can only go in certain areas. He cannot follow the captain to the object. If he tries he will die. The support however can follow the captain anywhere. If your teams captain dies the round is over for your entire team. Job’s will switch randomly throughout the match.
Also the sniper will have an attachment called “adrenaline” on his gun. If he aims and fires at a downed teammate he will be healed. He will be able to switch between bullets and adrenaline at any time. See more about this in the “New Guns” Section.
We have removed Assassination.
New Maps:
Map One: Hotel
The first map new map is called Hotel. It is exactly what the name suggests: A Hotel. There are four floors. The first is like a lobby. There is a front desk and a cash register. You will be able to take cover behind the front desk. There is a sniper rifle behind the desk also. Around the room are plenty of random objects to provide cover like overturned desks or chairs, and vases that hold large plants. These objects will break apart when shot at several times, like the cover on Mansion. Behind the front desk is an elevator. The elevator will be able to take you to any of the four floors on the map. Simply press A to go to floor one, B to go to floor two, X to go to floor three, and Y to go to floor four. If you prefer not to use the elevator there is a spiral staircase that can also take you any of the four floors. If you chose to use the stairs, you will notice a ladder when you get to the top. The ladder will take you to the roof of the hotel. There will be plenty of cover on the roof, like huge fans, electricity boxes, ext.
On the first floor there will be door on the left side of the room that is halfway open. Inside the door will be a hallway that leads to a bathroom. There are several stalls in the bathroom, most of which will be open. The ones that are closed, you will be able to crawl under and hide inside. Inside the bathroom will also be an air vent. You will be able to climb up on the toilet and crawl inside the air vent. It is large enough to maneuver around and if you go far enough inside there is an area where you can actually stand up and walk. There will also be a ladder inside the air vent that you can climb up. It will take you to the third floor where you can burst out of the vent and surprise enemies. In the bathroom will be a torque bow. If you hide in the air vent with a sniper rifle when an enemy picks up the torque bow you will have an easy headshot.
The second floor a large hallway, with several rooms where people would be staying in. Some will be open, but others will be closed. You will not be able to enter the rooms with doors that are closed. The rooms that are open will have primarily the same design. There will be a bed which you will be able to hide under. There will be a small bathroom and a patio or a porch. You will be able to hide out on the patio under desks. You can even climb down from the patio onto the ground from the second floor. You will land in the pool area. You cannot get in the pool. There will not be a lot of cover in the pool area besides the abandoned snack bar. (Sorry). You can see the parking lot through the fence surrounding the pool area but sorry you can get into the parking lot either. You can however get back inside the hotel by entering though the gym. It is small but it will provide a great place to hide if you are tying to wait the match out for a draw. You will NOT be able to jump to the pool from the third floor. In one of the rooms there will be a boomshot under the bed. I will not reveal which room number this is yet.
On the third floor there will also be some rooms but very few. Most of the third floor will be taken up be a huge dining room. There will be LOTS of tables and chairs in the dining room for cover and unlike the ones on the first floor these will be made of steel so they will not break upon being shot at. The air vent will lead up to the dining room, so if you decide to camp in the dining room, be careful. You might be in for a surprise. As I said earlier there will be few rooms on the third floor most of which will be open. They will have to same design as the ones on the second floor.
The fourth floor is like a conference room where staff would meet. There are sofas and couches and a couple of soda machines. This will be the spawning point for the Locust. Hardly any fighting will occur here because there is not really any cover. There is however a sniper rifle on in this room near one of the soda machines. There is also a door that leads to the spiral staircase, and you can take the ladder up to the roof from there. There is a hammer of dawn on the roof and it can only be sued on the roof. COG players will spawn on either the first floor or the second. This will be decided randomly by the computer each round you play on the map.
Map Two: Hayfield
On Hayfield the COG players will spawn in a stable. Don’t worry Locust players you will spawn in the stable next round. Spawn points switch sides. The stable will be on the outer edge of the map. I assume that most of the battling on hayfield will occur in the center. Inside the stable will be lots of places to hide. Not just cover, places where you can try to wait for the match to end for a draw. There will be small corners where players will just rush by without paying attention and that will give players that spawn in the stable a slight advantage. Out side of the stable there will be tall grass, really high grass that players can easily hide in. Right outside of the stable will be a torque bow. There will not be a lot of cover around the stable but like I said inside the stable there is plenty. In the tall grass you will find various weapons such as the sniper rifle and the boomshot. The majority of the fighting will happen in the very center of Hayfield. There is a large wheel barrel you can hide behind and a farmhouse you can hide in. This farmhouse will be small but if your team works together you can make it into a great stronghold.
Around the map there will be large piles of hay. You can crawl inside of them and jump out and to surprise enemies. On the small farmhouse in the middle of the map there will be a ladder. You can climb up it in to the attic of the farmhouse. By the farmhouse there will be large building that looks kind of like a tower. Inside will be a staircase that takes you up extremely high. On the top of the tower there will be a sniper rifle. This will be a great sniping spot as you can see the whole map and not to you cannot easily get rushed.
The players that do not spawn in the stable will spawn on the other side of the map which will be near an underground shelter. You can go underground and hideout or you can try to draw enemies in and have your team blast them as soon as they enter. There will be LOTS of cover in the underground shelter.
New Map Three: Downtown
Downtown will probably be one of the more popular maps like Gridlock, I presume Hotel will too but I think downtown will be a huge success. I am not really allowed to say to much about this map but I can tell you it is a very small map. The two spawn points are directly across from each other. There is a road and on each side of that road are three stores. Like a shoes store or a clothing store. They are all small and all have plenty of cover. On the road in the very center of the map there is a boomshot. There is a torque bow in one of the stores and also a sniper rifle. As I said earlier all the stores have plenty of cover, you can hid behind clothing racks, in bathrooms, or the front counter. That’s pretty much it, I know it sounds bland but it will be a fun map to play on X-box live or even one on one.
New Map four: Central Park
Central Park is an actual park. It is like a state park with a trail and everything. In Central Park you start off a long ways away from each other, one team spawns on one side of the map and the other team spawns on the other side of the map. There is a play ground where you can hide in the small towers that little kids enjoyed so much before the locust showed up. You can hide under slides benches. On the trail there is a cave that you can hide in and camp there. Inside the cave is a stingray. (I will get to that in a minute). There is also a Flamethrower Torque bow on this map underneath one of the benches on the park. There is a pavilion or a shelter where a lot of battling will take place. There is a lot of cover under the pavilion, tables and chairs. Next to the shelter is an open field. This will provide absolutely no cover what so ever.
This map will be great for sniping due to its size and its immense amount of places to hide. Central park brings something new to Gears of War, with an extremely realistic atmosphere. The map also allows teams to split up completely, and still have a chance at winning.
Alright. What you’ve all been waiting for…New Weapons
New Weapon One: The Stingray
The stingray is another weapon that sounds cool. And guess what? It is. The stingray is great for when you are by yourself. It is as small as a pistol but it can do a lot of damage. The Stingray shoots out a small dart with poison in it. The poisons effects are immediate. It causes the player shot to freeze for a full second; hopefully giving you enough time to pull out a shotgun and blast the enemy without having to worry about getting killed yourself.
New Weapon Two: The Adrenaline gun
Are you tired of your teammates getting downed and killed before you can run over to the other side of the map and heal them? Well the Adrenalin gun solves that problem. The Adrenaline gun also is as small as a pistol and shoots out a dart. You shoot it at your teammate and it heals them when they are downed. Pretty sweet huh? You can also get Adrenaline attached to your sniper rifle on certain game modes.
New Weapon Three: Butchers Knife
Self Explanatory. You can throw it. You can melee with it.
New Weapon Four: Flamethrower attachment.
Okay everyone loves the Torque bow, but it is a hard weapon to use and takes a ton of practice to get good at. Well to those us of who suck with the torque bow there is now a solution, and it’s called the Flamethrower attachment. The name speaks for its self. When you find a torque bow you can now attach a canister or oil or gasoline onto it which will allow it to shoot out flames. Of course you will have to find the gasoline canister, but it is worth searching for. Your torque bow will become one of the most deadly weapons in Gears of War. You will have to be careful with it though. You can’t just run around shooting flames everywhere…never mind I take that back, you can, but it will cost you. You can catch objects on fire. And those objects won’t just burn enemies, they will burn you too. Some objects will not catch on fire but will simply become extremely hot. If you accidently take cover on one of these objects then be prepared to lose a lot of your health. But don’t worry too much about it. Simply have fun shooting flames at those annoying Locust…or COG.
New Weapon Five: The Pole Gun
This was one of our better ideas for a weapon. Basically it is a gun that shoots out iron poles. When you pick up the gun you will find ammo for it right next to it. The ammo is a bag which you carry on you back. Inside the bag there are eight iron poles. You load a pole into the gun by sticking it in the back of the gun and when you are ready you aim and shoot. The pole will fly out of the gun at a tremendous speed and if it hits an enemy it will weaken them significantly. If it is a head shot they will die instantly. This will be cooler than seeing their head explode. Instead you will see an iron pole fly through their head. This I assume will look really cool. You can say to a friend “you see that guy with the pole going through his arm? That was me”
Another cool thing about the pole gun is that if you get shot with one you and you manage to get away with your life, you can pull the pole out of you by pressing X. Then you can use it as a weapon you can swing it like a baseball bat and bash enemies. I don’t know about you but I think this would be a great addition for Gears of War. The Pole gun has a scope on it that it a little less powerful that a Sniper Rifle.
New Weapon Six: The Graviton
The Graviton just sounds like an awesome weapon. And that’s right. It is. The Graviton is not really a gun. It’s more like a bayonet. Or a giant knife. It does have a trigger but it doesn’t shot bullets or poles of anything of the sort. It shoots out a blast of gravity. It has the same aiming system as a hammer of dawn, that being if you aim it at someone for more than 3 seconds they are pretty much guaranteed death. Instead of a huge beam hitting the enemy, they enemy gets sucked towards you. The force from the gravity pulls them at you and the long bayonet on your gun will easily slice through them. Their body will remain stuck on your bayonet until you click X to shove them off. Meleeing with the Graviton will do more damage than the usual as it has a large bayonet on the end of it. Its requires no open sky or whatever the hammer of dawn needs. All it requires if for you to have skill with it.
New Weapon Seven: Poison Grenade
We know you have heard a lot about this already, but I still figured I’d mention it. I am really really not allowed to say anything about this except that like all weapons in GOW it is awesome.
